Hello, hello, hello, my wonderful friends! Mr. J is in the house for another scene analysis for you all tonight! This evening, I will be reviewing this brief emotional scene in the mid-season finale “Escape to Amphibia”. I thought it was a profound moment of character development for Anne, considering what she went through and how much her parents meant to her even after she came back.

After a failed attempt to rescue the Plantars from the FBI, government special agent Mr. X locks up Anne, her parents, and some of their friends behind bars. Anne gets discouraged until her parents remind her of the brave things she has done and how far she has grown.

Re-watching this scene, I still find it to be a touching moment between Anne and her parents. In fact, they have been a lot closer than they ever were before. Anne has endured tremendous difficult moments in Amphibia, yet she still managed to grow strong and never gave up in the midst of hardship. They saw how brave she was when she fought against the killer robot Andrias sent and how mature she now was. So I love how even in jail, they still emitted a sunshine ray of hope in her heart.

The only negative I find to be worth noting is Mr. X; he was…unnecessarily condescending to Anne. I get that he was an antagonist, but it felt really weird how he sadistically taunted Anne and mocked her for being a kid. It’s a very generic villain line, and I don’t really think he should say villainous lines if he looks at himself as a hero. Of course, he is an overall annoying character from beginning to end, so I have nothing else to say of him.

The other thing is that I wish they made more scenes with Anne and her parents and have them talk about Sasha and Marcy. Because, let’s face it, one of the major downsides of this season is how oddly calm Anne was throughout this experience. She barely mentioned any of them to her parents, and there is no indication she told her parents what happened to them back in Amphibia. Shouldn’t she be getting PTSD or trauma from all this?

Overall, this little scene is pretty good despite how irritating Mr. X is in this. I’ll give it a 7/9.

Peace!
