Top 10 Saddest Transformers Deaths Part 1 (#10-#6) · 11:45am Jan 28th, 2023
#10: Scorponok from The Transformers US Marvel Comic (Issue 75: The End or the Beginning): With the ever-looming threat of the Planet-Eater Unicron raging against Cybertron and the Autobot Matrix of Leadership having been corrupted with evil energy from Thunderwing, Scorponok did what no other Decepticon had done before and fought like a hero instead of a coward. He fought ruthlessly against the fearsome Planet Earth; however, after being hit point-blank by Unicron's Disintegration Beams, the once fearsome Decepticon General lay dying on the ground as a melted heap and asked Optimus Prime, "Did I do good?" Optimus replied that he did do well before Scorponok finally died with a satisfied smile.
#9: Depth-Charge from Beast-Wars Transformers (Season 3: Episode 12: Nemesis Part 1):
Depth-Charge had a complex character arc, almost like the Bat-Man of the Beast Wars. After his entire team and every Cybertronian in the colony of the Omicron world were ruthlessly slaughtered by Sadistic Protoform X/Rampage, Depth-Charge swore vengeance against the rogue Protoform, even if it went against the favor of his fellow Maximals. However, in the final battle to stop BW Megatron from reactivating the Decepticon Warship, The Nemesis, Depth Charge had one more final battle with the sadistic seemingly immortal Predacon, ending the battle by plunging a piece of raw energy right through Rampages Spark, killing them both in the process. Depth Charge may not have been liked by many, but at least he took Rampage down and finally ended his quest for vengeance.
#8: Break-Down from Transformers Prime:
Break-Down was the Decepticon that suffered the worst fate in this show. He started as a loyal soldier for the Decepticon cause, but did that save him from fates worse than death? No, it did not. Not only was he dissected by the human terrorist group Mech, but he then met a brutal death at the hands of the treacherous Decepticon Arachnid. His corpse was then found by Mech, which was then used as a body for the terrorist group's leader, Silas. However, his fate gets even worse when he is turned into a terrorist due to a failed Dark Energon Experiment performed by Starscream and Knockout. The Revived Breakdown, now a literal zombie, went on a rampage in the Decepticon's warship, turning numerous Vehicons into Terrorcons. However, it would be Arachnid that would finally put an end to Breakdown, as it not only killed Breakdown but Silas as well, marking this as the first human death to be shown on-screen in Transformers' history.
#7: Brawn, Prowl, Ratchet, and Ironhide from The Transformers: The Movie (1986):
Due to many of the original toys being discontinued during that time, Hasbro needed to get rid of some of the old characters to make room for the new ones, like Kup, Hot-Rod, Arcee, Springer, Perceptor, Blaster, Ultra-Magnus, and Galvatron, to name a few, but that didn't mean their deaths needed to be that freaking brutal. It started when the Decepticons, led by Megatron, attacked the ship they were on. Brawn was the first to perish after being fatally shot in the shoulder by Megatron's Gun-Mode. Prowl was next when he was shot through the heart by the Constructicon, Scavenger, as Prowl excreted orange smoke from his eyes and mouth before dying. Then Ironhide and Ratchet took to the offensive but were also put down by Starscream using Megatron's Gun Mode. However, when Ironhide heard Megatron's plan to attack and destroy Autobot City on Earth, he tried to stop him. Megatron, after saying the famous "Such Heroic Nonsense" quote, finally put Ironhide down with his fusion cannon. Heck, they weren't the only old characters to die, as the Autobots, WindCharger, and Wheel-Jack also died after the attack from the Constructicon Combiner, Devastator.
#6: Starscream from Transformers Armada:
Starscream was my favorite Character in this show, well, other than the comedic duo Cyclonus and Demolisher. Starscream had such a fantastic character Arc in this show. As in Armada, Starscream was for once, not a treacherous coward, but a loyal soldier who served the Decepticon cause with great honor. However, even loyal soldiers have their limits, as the Armada Starscream did not at all deserve the abuse he was put through at the hands of his leader Megatron. His Breaking-Point was when the Decepticons abandoned him on Earth after another failed battle against the Autobots, as of that moment, Starscream had a new goal...to kill Megatron, for all the suffering he was put through. After Starscream left the Decepticons and joined forces with the Autobots, his character truly shined. As he formed many friendships, for example, with the Autobot Hot-Shot, his Minicon Swindle, and the human companion Alexis. However, after being persuaded by the treacherous Decepticon General Thrust, and Unicron's Agent, Sideways, to join with Unicron so he could finally get revenge on Megatron, Starscream betrayed the Autobots.
However, it was at the final battle with the Planet Eater, that Starscream finally saw the reality of the situation, as he knew if he didn't interfere, Unicron would destroy them all. Starscream then interfered in the battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron, now turned into Galvatron by the Minicons' circle of friendship...I mean Energon Cycle wave. He put up a decent fight against his former leader, but then suffered a fatal wound from the Star-Saber. Starscream desperately pleaded to Galvatron to join forces with Optimus or else everyone would be doomed. However, when Galvatron ignored Starscream's words, Starscream knew that there was only one option left. Starscream then made the ultimate sacrifice by using his proton cannon to fire at Unicron, all the while, ejecting his Minicon Swindle, since Starscream knew that he would not survive. Starscream was then disintegrated by an energy blast from Unicron, right before Optimus Prime and Galvatron's eyes. It was at this moment that Galvatron put his grievances aside and joined forces with the Autobots to stop Unicron.
Starscream in Armada was a fantastic character, and his death helped turn the tide of the battle to victory, which makes his sacrifice meaningful and honorable—well, until Transformers Energon brought him back and ruined it.
(Part 2 will be coming soon.).
