0/5: MY EYEEEESSS!!!

Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another TV show review for tonight! This evening, I will be reviewing Batman Beyond, a sequel series to both Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. This show is definitely a fantastic follow-up to the original animated series due to the amazing storytelling it contains and how faithful it is to the overall legacy of Batman. It’s even slightly better than TNBA in my opinion. As someone who loves Batman lore and any new characters existing within DC, I found it to be incredibly fascinating the first time I watched it and enjoyed it a lot more after re-watching my favorite episodes.

This is also set within the DC Animated Universe; it takes place 20 years after the original series with Neo-Gotham now existing. Bruce is now retired from being Batman, and all his closest allies such as Alfred, Jim Gordon, Lucius Fox, and others have most likely died of natural causes. A high school student named Terry McGinnis assumes the role of Batman after the murder of his father and discovering the illegal deeds of Derek Powers. Follow him as the new Batman takes on a series of new villains and discovers week by week what it truly means to be the Dark Knight!

Like I said, I love the way they honor the source material and continue the story with an even more intriguing storyline. Terry is, by far, one of the most enjoyable protagonists in an animated series; I like his sense of humor, personality, and how he became his own hero while under Bruce Wayne’s tutelage. He is a perfect mixture between Bruce and Spider-Man while maintaining the core nature of Batman. Will Friedle was the perfect choice to voice him, and you can tell he had a lot of fun voice acting as the character.

I’m also glad Bruce Timm brought back Kevin Conroy as the older Bruce Wayne. You see, ever since the man passed away, I look back at his older performances with deep sorrow. He may be gone, but his legendary voice lives on. RIP Kevin.

The series introduced a lot of entertaining villains such as Spellbinder, Inque, Mad Stan, Blight, Shriek, The Stalker, False-Face, Payback, and a few others. They may not be as iconic as Batman’s Rogue Gallery, but they were still a lot of fun to watch. I only wish we would see them again in modern day Batman media.

The voice acting, animation, soundtrack, and the dialogue were all great from start to finish. Not perfect but still awesome to sit through.

The main thing I love about this show is that Terry managed to pull through any pain and suffering he endured despite being a teenager and already going through a rough time of his life. He was a trouble-maker who had a record of lawbreaking, isn’t a great student at his own school, and even worst—lost his father. Despite all that, he had a deep sense of justice and did quite well in honoring the legacy and mantle of Batman. Bruce may have been harsh on him in the beginning, but deep down, he saw great potential in him that he’ll become better than he was before. And every day, he was glad…knowing he chose the right guy.

Overall, this show is amazing. I’ll give it a 5/5: Greatness Beyond!

Peace!

I remember when I first saw this show and I was like ‘nah, he’s not Batman, way too skinny’; and then I actually watched the show later and it was like wait a minute this is awesome.

Mr. J... I didn't like seeing Bane in the shape he was in. It was awful

I love that show, I just wish it lasted longer.
