Greetings, everybody! This is Mr. J back with another TV show review for today! This evening, I will be reviewing a 3D animated series entitled Star Wars: Rebels, which serves to fill in the gaps between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. As a big fan of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I was immensely impressed with the way they wrote the new characters and how well-developed they were throughout the course of the show. As much as I enjoyed this show, I can't honestly say it is perfect. In fact, it clearly isn't on par with the previous animated series. While it does contain an excellent amount of character devolvement and story-telling, it has a vast amount of filler that is neither appealing nor interesting.

This show is about a young orphan boy who steals food for survival. After bumping into a small band of rebels, he finds himself not only in trouble but also with a hidden opportunity to change his life forever. Thus, through a series of trials, fights, and heartaches, he becomes a strong Jedi--a warrior learning from the Force and using it to righteously fight against the tyranny of the Empire.

The main thing I hate about this show is the animation. When you compare this animation to that of "The Clone Wars", you will instantly see how much of a downgrade it is. Some of the returning characters such as Yoda, Obi-Wan, and even Anakin (hologram) looked so horribly designed in contrast to their previous models.

The other issue I have with the show, as I mentioned, is the boring filler. This may seem very nitpicky, but I didn't like how certain episodes spent a tedious amount of time making Ezra go through pointless adventures only for him to start trouble, especially the first season. Not to mention how annoying he is throughout the course of the show. I'm sorry, but I'm not a huge fan of this character. While I'm happy that he went through character growth and learned how to be a great Jedi, I still find him less enjoyable than other characters like Ahsoka, Kanan, and Hera. Just my humble opinion.

Those are the only factors I find to be negative. Other than that, this series also did a great job in expanding the lore of the franchise and filling in the gaps between episodes 3 and 4. Both the action, the dialogue, and the voice acting were top-notch!

The villains in this show are some of the main things I enjoyed therein. Seeing the Inquisitors hunt down the Rebels and wreaking havoc as they go was awesome to see. Plus, Dave Filoni and the writers did both Darth Vader and Maul justice when they made their respective appearances. Maul was just as awesome as before, and the way they concluded his story in season 3 episode 20 was flawless. The detail and symbolism shown there are underrated, and it's sad that not many people realize the significance of his ending.

Some of my favorite villains are the Grand Inquisitor and Grand Admiral Thrawn. The latter was more intimidating and calculating than the former due to his impressive analytical skills and high-IQ intelligence. Every time Thrawn showed up, I would fear for the safety of Agent Kallus and the other Rebels. That's how good he was as a villain.

Overall, this series is a worthy follow-up to both "The Clone Wars" and "Revenge of the Sith". It gives a great amount of depth to the characters, new and old, and shows us the cruelty of the Empire, and how in the end, good will always triumph over evil. So to put it shortly, it is a good show albeit not amazing. Therefore, I will rate it a solid 4/5: Star Wars: Pebbles.

Peace!
