MLP Winter Wish Day Review · 11:02pm Dec 11th, 2022
Hey, guys! Sorry for the lack of a chapter today. Things were a bit more hectic around here for a Sunday. But, anyway, I don't want to leave the page completely quiet, so I'm gonna be giving you my thoughts on Winter Wish Day. This won't be like my normal MYM reviews have been, but I'll try to be as concise and straight as I can. I'm just gonna say it...this is probably my least favorite thing out of all the MYM stuff released so far. The rushed storytelling, which is already a plague on the series proper, is almost unbearable here. Sure, there are some cute moments, but they literally have the ponies on a time schedule, which leaves absolutely no time for anything close to either acceptable world building or staunch curation of a narrative. In the end, Winter Wish Day just relies on cute ponies doing cute things in the snow.
Also, there's the twist of the unicorns saying "frosty shivers" to everypony and having that be the driving force for a torrential blizzard all around Equestria. On paper, this looks like a harmless, if cliche, bit of lore. It also makes a bit of sense given the events of magic returning to Equestria and the Unicorns still learning how to control it. However, that being said......how does the weather work in this new Equestria? When did the Pegasi lose control of it? These are just two of many questions I have after watching this special...and, really, MYM in general. I really enjoy these new characters. However, they've been given some pretty poor scripts so far. This one, by far, was the poorest. It was rushed, it was clumsy, and I just didn't really like it as much as I thought I was going to. Hopefully, they will learn to turn things around before Chapter 3 or 4 or whatever the next one is comes out next year.
I'm giving it a 2/5
I personally give it a 5/5.
