The three best kinds of chapter endings: happy endings, cliffhangers, and last but not least, WTF moments. The last one is my favorite. I mean you expect one thing to happen, and then the author just sees it fit to pull the rugs from right under us, leaving us to wonder just what is going through those heads of theirs. Personally I find those moments to be the funniest, especially when it takes me a few minuets to figure out what the heck just happened. Don't you agree?
