On this day in 2010, one TV show would help change the world and teach everyone a little bit of friendship. Happy 11th Anniversary, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! Thank you for being one of the best cartoons in the decade!
With how terrible seasons one and two were, I was hoping that this season would be better in terms of the writing and the characters. Was it? Let’s find out.
Episodes 1 &2–The Crystal Empire
Episode 14: Suited for Success
This is one of those episodes that is so perfect that I have nothing to complain about. Really. The story was great. The characters were all wonderful. The moral was a very solid one. This was a Rarity episode and since its conception, there hasn’t been a single Rarity episode that I’ve outright hated.
With season one, I didn’t like a lot of the episodes. Perhaps I was too harsh on that season. Yes, the way in which the characters acted in a lot of the episodes was terrible, but does that truly mean that those episodes deserve to be hated? Maybe not, seeing as how “hate” is probably too strong a word. I would just say that they weren’t as good as the other episodes in season one.
Season four premiered in November of 2013 and ended in May of 2014. We bronies had to endure for over a year without any new episodes. It wasn’t until early 2015 that we finally got some information regarding the new season, and the fifth season finally premiered in April of this year. There was a, thankfully, short hiatus during the summer, with the show returning to airing new episodes in September. The fifth season finally ended near the end of November.
When it comes to the continuation of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, you fit into two categories. Either you love the series and you want it to keep going forever, or you feel that the series has run its course, the writers are running out of ideas, and that the series should just up and end already. I am of the latter category. That isn’t to say that I still don’t love this series. I do.
It has been twenty-five years since we’ve had an Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon on the air, and that’s probably for the best. For one thing, this franchise isn’t very popular. (Just look at how many stories it has on its fanficiton.net page). Second, I don’t recall anyone clamoring for a reboot of the ’80s cartoon. So, why is there a new cartoon out on Nickelodeon? Episode 14–Canterlot Boutique
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this, but Rarity is my third favorite pony, right behind Twilight and Fluttershy. What I loved about this episode was the simple fact that Rarity is expanding her business, so it’s nice to see that she’s finally achieving her dream of breaking out into the fashion world.
In terms of writing and characterization, season three was slightly better than the seasons that came before it, but still kinda mediocre. Is season four any better? Let’s find out.
Episodes 1 & 2: Princess Twilight Sparkle, Parts 1 &2
In terms of continuing the story from the season three finale, this was not the best way to go about it. What is it with these writers and their inability to write a good, compelling two-parter?
Just thought I'd give you guys a heads-up that the fifth season of MLP will be coming out on DVD on July 12. I'm so psyched! Can't wait to have this in my DVD collection.
Is it just me or do the songs for the finales really stand out from the rest of the songs of the season? Even if you don't watch the show, you can tell just by listening to them that they were written for the season finale. There just seems to be a feel of finality to them that almost brings a tear to your eye when you listen to them. With songs like “Let the Rainbow Remind You” and “Friends Are Always There for You” the episodes that accompany could easily serve as the series finale,
For peeps like me who don't want to see G4 going down to the dogs in a few years, simply because we love the show so much, or we don't want some to be deleted or changed, you can sign a petition to keep G4 going! I think it’s only fitting that we all take a moment of silence in remembrance of Amy Keating Rogers. This was the last episode she wrote for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
