This is an abbreviated list of expectations we have of reviewers. A full list is provided to reviewers. If you are interested in becoming a reviewer, please fill out an application!

Reviewer Responsibility

Now that you are an official reviewer, please make an introductory post on the Reviewers thread of the FimFiction group. In this thread, feel free to introduce yourself, any qualifications or things you think make you a valuable reviewer, and what story genres you are willing to accept. This is important! Readers will check this thread to determine what stories to send you.

Finally, please post a rough estimate of how frequently you will post reviews. Since we don’t know what’s going on in your life, or how busy you are, we try to be flexible with deadlines. That being said, know that each reviewer is expected to review at the minimum two stories of 10k words or less, OR one story over 10k words every month. Failing to complete two stories of 10k or less words in one month will result in these missed stories being added to your next month's quota. Continued failure to meet deadlines will result in loss of status as a reviewer.

Reviewers with long fics (defined as stories over 200k words) are allowed extra time to complete the fic. The amount of extra time granted will depend on length of the story.

You are also allowed to decide your own folder cap, or how many stories you accept at a time. Please lock your folder when you reach your cap and unlock it when you are underneath it.

For every story sent to you, please take one from the main folder to match it. Be aware this effectively ‘doubles’ your review count: if you get 5 submissions, this is a total of 10 reviews: the 5 submitted and 5 from the main folder. Please decide your folder caps accordingly!

Moving and Selecting Stories

There are two folders in the review group you should be aware of: the main folder and your individual submissions folder. As a reviewer, you will have group permissions to move stories from the general folder or your individual folder to your reading folder, thereby ‘claiming’ a story and marking it as one you will review.

Because we can’t give permissions for specific folders, this is honor-system based. DO NOT REMOVE STORIES FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S FOLDERS. IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL BE BANNED.

Note that a story can only exist in one person’s reading folder at a time: stories that have been submitted to two folders at the same time will be removed. This excludes reviewers’ ‘reviewed’ folders: authors are allowed to submit to as many reviewers as they want provided they do so one at a time.

When you have finished a review of the story, please leave a comment on the author’s story linking to your review and move it from your ‘reading’ folder to your ‘reviewed’ folder.

Right to Deny:

Should you receive a story you are not comfortable reviewing based on content, religious or other personal reasons, or it does not have the tags you indicated in your review thread, let us know and the story will be removed without penalty. You are not required to read anything which makes you uncomfortable.

Deadlines:

Things happen and times can be tough. We understand this. Should you be unable to meet any deadline, either the one you set yourself or the two month requirement, please contact us and explain your situation! We are more than willing to work with you and make exceptions. You are a volunteer, not a paid worker, so we’ll try and be as lenient as possible!
