Cliff Robertson won an Academy Award for his performance as Charly Gordon, an intellectually disabled adult who is selected by two doctors to undergo a surgical procedure that triples his IQ and is to the same with Algernon, a laboratory mouse who also underwent the same procedure. This moving drama, laden with excellent social commentary, also features Claire Bloom, Lilia Skala, Leon Janney and Dick Van Patten, and was based on Daniel Keyes' Flowers for Algernon.
