Years ago, James Gunn practiced comedy by telling all sorts of jokes including jokes about molestation and rape. One can question the the method, but the result is excellent comedic chops.

He does not like the Alt-Reich, and trolled the Alt-Reich on Twitter. Members of the Alt-Reich found the worst of the disgusting old tweets to the attention of Disney. Disney fired him.

The cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy, while condemning the distasteful tweets, supported James Gunn. Fans Started petitions. Disney, after a pregnant pause of 8 months, rehired James Gunn, presumably with a pay-raise and back-pay.
