You need:

-Three identical paper clips.

-Hand-eye coordination.

-A pen.

1) Beforehand, bend two of the paper clips (which we shall refer to as clip B and C) outward so that you can wear one of either on your index finger like a ring, hugging around the front joint. In essence, make them look identical.

2) When your on your stage (a workplace area, class, etc.), you will need to sneak clip C into somebody’s pocket. This would be very easy to do if there’s some space in the mouth of the pocket (hoodie pockets work well), but be sure to time the drop off well so that little people see you. You can tie your shoe to give you an excuse to bend over.

3) Wait. Make sure there’s a decent amount of time between when you’d dropped clip C and when it’s impending reveal shall occur.

4) When you’re ready to perform, invite your mark and a small audience to see what you’re about to do. You will be wearing clip B on the index of your left hand (it can be whichever hand suits your preference) while clip A and the pen are in your right pocket. Be very careful that your mark does not see clip B.

5) Once they’re paying attention to you, pull clip A out with your right hand, displaying it for them to see. If you’d like, you can momentarily give it to them to examine.

6) Toss clip A into the air so it forms an arch towards your left hand. (If you’re letting them examine the clip, you can let them toss it, which might make the next step require some more speed.)

7) You will then do two things at the same time: first, you shall grab clip A with your three other fingers, and also stick out your index finger, making clip B visible. If timed right, it should look as though you’d impaled one single clip with your finger.

8) With your fingers still curled around clip A, pluck clip B off your finger to show it off. While their attention is on the clip you’re giving them, slip clip A into your pocket. Depending where you are, you could even drop it on the ground and cover it with your shoe so it remains hidden.

9) Give the audience a few moments to bask in what you’d done, but then say that you’re far from done. With clip B in your right hand, you will perform something called a false transfer: you will pretend to take the clip from your right hand with your left, when it’s actually still in your right.

10) Reach into the pocket with the pen with your right hand, letting the clip fall in at the same time you take the pen out.

11) Claim that the pen will act as a magic wand, which you will tap your closed left hand with to make it "vanish", despite that it wasn’t there to begin with.

12) Pause for a few moments, before you slowly point to their pocket with the pen.

TIPS

-If you work in an area with paper clips, you can take two duplicates a few days in advance to make them into clips B and C. That way, you can ask somebody to hand you clip A, making the trick look completely impromptu.

-Let them keep the clip as a souvenir, giving them a placebo. (Tell them it’ll bring them good luck if they carry it with them everywhere.)

-Even though you know the secret, you must take note that you should still separate yourself from the methods making everything happen while you’re performing. To them, you’re impaling the clip on your finger, making it vanish, and then appear in their pocket, so you must subconsciously believe the same.
