While it seems that the German Shepherd is more versatile than this animal because of its intelligence, it would seem that the Rhodesian Ridgeback makes up for its lack of intelligence in strength and stamina. Also, it makes sense that this dog was designed to perform specific tasks being that it was bred by the Germans.... again.

I don't know for sure, but I would bet that the Boxer might be somewhere in the bloodline as well.

Trivia:
The breed is considered a hound.

Some pure Ridgebacks don't actually possess the ridge on their back that they are named after.

The breed is know to be relatively silent, which is strange for their protective nature.
