Not finished

it's impossible to talk about a great number of species native to Terra-1 and its parallels without mentioning magic.

So what is magic?

What ponies, and indeed other Sapient species Terra, call magic is in fact the cosmic energies of the universe!!!.

You see, everything in the universe is bound together by an invisible force that in its natural state produces the gravity that affects atoms, molecules, planets, stars and everything in between. Put simply, magic is what is known to Humans as 'Dark matter'.

Now, there is no need to get worried about Unicorns bringing about the end of the universe from using magic. Dark matter is estimated to constitute 84.5% of the total matter in the universe, so it would require every being in existence to be alicorns, and to be using magic constantly, each day every day for hundreds of millions, if not billions of years, to make even the slightest bit of difference to the universe as a whole.

now that that is out of the way, let's move on to its uses

Now, magic works by exciting the dark matter particles to either exacerbate it's gravity, such as with Levitation spells

'burning' particles, this includes spells such as fire related spells or even offensive magic

Gatling gun Twilight is best Twilight

or physically altering matter by sending it somewhere else, examples of the latter include teleportation spells, which works by swapping the body of the user or recipient with the air in the target location, so the air would get transported to the location the user used to occupy

and Twilights infamous 'Apples to Oranges' spell

Somewhere, there is a poor frog with no legs

Magic has incredible uses for everyday life, but it also has many uses in combat, with some battles using nothing but magic

Types of Magic

Black Magic - Not the kind that is associated with necromancy, Black mages tend to be skilled at spells such as Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, and even able to cause status ailments. The most powerful Black mages are able to not only create tiny black holes(not enough to engulf planets but enough to bring pain) and call down meteors upon their foes.

White Magic - White mages are the healers of the battlefield, able to not only revive and heal teammates but also create shields around them to helpb defend them. They are not entirely defenseless as they can cast wind spells and call down the most powerful white magic, Holy.

Blue Magic - The copycats. They can mimic any spell they see or are hit with. However the flaw is they never can naturally learn spells, only copy them. But because of this they are jack-of-all-trades in their magic and are able to both heal and attack fluently. While Red mages are able to use both black and white magic they are never able to quite accomplish what Blue mages can do.

Time Magic - Time mages are wild cards. They are able to speed up their allies and slow down or even stop their foes in place. These effects are always temporary though. They also are able to cast quake spells and are able to call down comets and meteors as well. It is worth noting that Time mages can learn probably the most devastating spells to an army: Banish. Banish sends its target to the Rift if it hits and is most known when the villain Exdeath cast it on his general Gilgamesh for failing him.
The Rift is a place that exists between multiverses and even time itself. Anyone sent there will not die naturally for time does not pass within its confines. They will not grow hungry, tired, thirsty, or even old. However the Rift has some very powerful monsters(including the dragon of the beginning, Shinryu) within it so only the strongest fighters will survive for long within it.

Might I introduce variants of magic used primarily in combat?

*raises hand slowly* I noticed red mages aren't described as fully as the others mentioned here, so... Just wondering.

5123467 Ah. Red Mages, if memory serves, are capable of using both white and black magic. However due to their multiclassing, they cannot master either of them. Their variability makes them useful to a point but master black mages and white mages severely outclass them.
