Specifically the Pacific Theatre.

Allied Forces(mainly the US) used a "island hopping strategy", kicking out Imperial Japanese forces until they eventually reached Japan itself.

Star Fox(and presumably Cornerian Forces) use a "planet hopping strategy", kicking out Venomian Forces until they eventually reach Venom.

Just something I kind of realized, the strategies are similar.
