As always, I have an example. It's a song I wrote, about my favorite expression. You know how animators will draw their characters with a range of emotions? Well, usually not included on that list is, "Something kind of hurtful just happened, but everything else is ok and I know things are going to be just fine." It's a sadness mixed with contentment.

Sad Smiles

The gardener on a rainy day
watching her topsoil wash away
Still the plants are fine and all is well
She stays inside as the waters swell

Sadly smile
My little mare, my pony friend, you
sadly smile
for though this moment hurts,
you're right where you should be
pain in the moment, yet you're content,
you try to hide, but I see
you have a sad, sad smile, for me.

Little one with new saddlebags
full of pencils and school knickknacks
mother waves, the bus drives away
mother's bright smile begins to fray

Sadly smile
My little mare, my pony friend, you
sadly smile
for though this moment hurts,
you're right where you should be
pain in the moment, yet you're content,
you try to hide, but I see
you have a sad, sad smile, for me.

An older mare at a lonely grave
remembers the life she failed to save
There was nothing this nurse could do
but a sapling promises something new

Sadly smile
My little mare, my pony friend, you
sadly smile
for though this moment hurts,
you're right where you should be
pain in the moment, yet you're content,
you try to hide, but I see
you have a sad, sad smile, for me.

Oh, this old world keeps on turning
and we all must keep on learning
happiness is not always what it would seem
sometimes it's just a sad sad smile at a
long-forgotten dream
So keep your head up and don't forget
you're all that you can be
Take the pain along with the promise and save
that sad smile for me.

Wow; that was really good, bravo. Often times finding such an outlet can be just what you need. In fact; my very first story on here came from a rough patch I was going through. It actually helped alot. The same can be said for Loss as well.
