Throughout the entire Smash Bros series each character seems to start out as a trophy, then come to life to join the battle!

With the exception of Super Smash Bros 64, where each character seems to start out as some sort of toy/action figure.

(The character who is shown at the beginning is picked at random I think)

Nintendo started out selling playing cards from 1889 to 1959, later on they even got permission to put Disney characters on their cards.

Afterwards they started to experiment with other things ranging from Taxis to food brands until they focused on Toys!

Eventually They became the video game company they are now!

My Little Pony has also had a well established history with toys, though that is a much more well known fact.

This doesn't play too much of a part in the Canon Smash Bros lore (Other then The Subspace Emissary)

But it feels like something that deserves some sort of allusion in some stories.
