The land is at war. I can recall little else other than the pain and suffering...

These hands are no longer my own, they belong to the empire ever since I took arms in its defense. I am a soldier and a warrior, a means of destruction by which my lord ends the life of all who would defy him.

I am little more than another rifle or bullet like the ones I posses. But it is my honor to fight for the empire, till my last breath is drawn...

A war to remember.

Player: Greater Human Empire

Units:

100 Imperial Riflemen
6 Vickers machinegun crews
4 Mark V tanks

Enemy: Shadow Army

Units:

300 Wretchlings
20 Oozes
200 Howl-Fiends
10 Murk Trolls
1 Grave Tiller Worm

Terrain:

The GHE is defending a large hill surrounded by plains. Three large trenches have been dug into the hill, one surrounding the base, another by the middle and a third at the top, creating a makeshift fortress.

The tanks have been laying in wait in a small hangar beside the western face of the hill at a fair distance from the trenches, their crews are inside the trenches with no immediate way of reaching the tanks unless escorted to them.

The enemy has you surrounded. Their army is preparing for a final assault on the hill, but you know it to be suicidal to just wait for them.

It is time to strike! You must device a way to reach the Mark V tanks and use them to decimate their army without losing the hill, as the enemy is sure to attack as soon as they see you leaving the trenches.

Enemy Howl-Fiends are separated in four groups of fifty on north, south, east and western faces of the hill, each one is accompanied by an equal number of Wretchlings with the spare hundred guarding the hangar along with the Grave Tiller Worm.

All Murk trolls will spearhead the charge with the northern grroup of Howl-Fiends should they decide to assault.

Objective:
Get to the tanks with enough soldiers to lead an offensive against all enemies while defending the hill from attacks on all sides.

Good luck, and don't be afraid of the dark!

You may have created a very dificult one indeed...... You may have set up something of a suicide mission. Alright here's my set up. In the lower trench I want one machine gun crew on each side. The remaining two crews are to be positioned in the middle trench on the northern side. That should help counteract the number of trolls and such coming from that direction. I want ten riflemen with each of the crews in the lower trench and ten riflemen positioned with the two crews on the north in the second trench. If the first trench is overrun then they are to fall back to the second trench and attempt to bring their machine guns with them. My remaining 50 riflemen will help the machine gun crew and the 10 riflemen on the western side deal with the howl fiends and wretchlings assaulting the western slope and then attempt to escort the tank crews to the hangar. Once the enemies assaulting the western slope have been delt with and the tank crews and their escorts are on their way the machine gun crew and 10 riflemen who had been stationed on that side are to move around to the north side and help them deal with the trolls. I just checked out the descriptions of the wretchlings and I don't think that 25 riflemen would have any problem dealing with just 100 of them so I'm going to split that 50 man escort into two groups of 25. The first group is going to focuse on dealing with the wretchlings. They are to advance in orderly formation with the first rank stopping and firing, then the rank behind them advancing in front of them and firing. They are to continue advancing and firing in this sort of 'leap-frog' fashion, if you will, until they reach the wretchling ranks at which point they are to remain in formation and engage the wretchlings in melee combat with their rifle's bayonets. The second group of 25 is to deal with the grave tiller worm. Hopefully they should be able to push through this way and make it to the tanks.
Hopefully this works.

Well, I believe your defense on the trenches is sound enough. The vickers should reduce the wretchlings to pieces and the riflemen wouldn't have to deal with too much by the time they got close enough to the trenches.

The northern side is where I would have my doubts, since the trolls are spearheading the charge, most would probably die. But the wretchlings and Howl-Fiends wouldn't be hit as badly, so they could overrun the lower trench despite the extra vickers.

But you did a good job of sending the western troops to the northern face, but I'm not sure they would make it in time before the enemy engages in melee.

As for the tank crews and their escorts, the only place were I see fault would be the worm vs twenty five soldiers. The worm is a special unit after all.

But overall, I grant you victory. with the worm distracted the tank crews would have made it to the Mark V's and then moved on to maul the decimated foes.
