Biological daughter of Laufey, ruler of the Frost Giants in Jotunheim, Lightning Dust was abandoned and left to die shortly after her birth. Found by Thor, Lightning Dust was taken to Asgard and she was raised as an Asgardian princess, along with her stepsister, Rainbow Dash.
When Rainbow was going to be crowned Queen, Lightning Dust sabotaged the coronation by allowing the Frost Giants to attack Asgard, prompting Rainbow to seek revenge on Jotunheim, resulting in her being banished to Earth and Lightning Dust discovering the truth about his heritage.
Lightning Dust was given the throne by his adoptive mother, Windy Whistles, when Thor had fallen in "Odin's Dream".
Regardless, Rainbow returned from her exile on Earth (after proving herself worthy to once again wield "Mjolnir") and ended her stepsister's reign, thwarting her attempt to declare war on the Nine Kingdoms by destroying Jotunheim.
With Thor disapproving of her actions, Lightning Dust dropped through the deep abyss of space, entering a wormhole, created by the destruction of the "Bifrost".
Transported through the wormhole, Lightning Dust encountered "The Other", who offered her to serve under Grogar and gave her the Chitauri Scepter (item that concealed the Mind Stone).
Lightning Dust was given command of the Chitauri army to conquer Earth, under the condition that she acquire the Tesseract (item that conceals the Space Stone) for Grogar.
Once she arrived on Earth, Lightning Dust managed to take possession of the Tesseract and used its power to open a wormhole over the city of Canterlot City and caused the Chitauri Invasion, but all her plans were eventually defeated by the group of superheroes known as "The Avengers" (where Rainbow Dash was a member).
At the end of the battle, Rainbow returned her to Asgard as her prisoner, where Thor sentenced her to spend the rest of her life in the Asgardian dungeons as punishment for her crimes.
However, when her mother was killed by the Dark Elves, Rainbow released her to defeat them, who wished to use the power of the Aether (energy that was concealing the Reality Stone) to transform the universe into eternal darkness.
During the fight, Lightning Dust faked her death and, unbeknownst to all, she returned to Asgard and successfully removed Thor from the throne, taking her place as Queen, where she remained for several years.
Eventually, Rainbow Dash's return forced her to reveal her deception as both sisters journeyed together to find Thor, arriving just in time to witness his death.
The loss of her father allowed Ember, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, to return from exile and wage war against the Nine Realms.
Lightning Dust ended up banished to the planet Sakaar along with Rainbow, while her sister was forced to fight Fluttershy (a.k.a Flutterhulk) in a gladiatorial arena.
Despite attempting to manipulate her path to freedom, she chose to side with her stepsister in a final battle against Ember, in which she summoned Surtur, defeating her and causing "The Ragnarök".
During the last moments in Asgard, Lightning Dust stole the Tesseract and currently stayed with her stepsister, supporting her ascension to her throne.
Very nice! Now, how about Star Swirl?
