After the disappointment that was The Predator (2018) damn does it feel good to have a great Predator movie again!

I've been a fan of the Predator movies since I was a kid. My uncle had Alien Vs Predator on dvd and would let me watch it. I remember it freaking me out quite a bit but there was just something about it that made me rewatch it countless times. Eventually he just let me have it, since then I've watched every Predator movie that has came out.

So when I heard that the Predator series was getting another movie I was pretty excited yet skeptical. See, this new movie was gonna be a hulu original. Things don't tend to go well when that's the case, but I'm very happy to report that this movie is awesome! This has got to be the best sequel we've gotten since the 1987 original film.

I loved everything from the characters, the story, to the predator himself. It also helps that the movie takes place in 1719 America (history is one of my favorite subjects). Having a Predator film take place in the past is a concept every fan has wanted.

The movie is beautifully shot as well. You're left in awe at seeing the shots of the great northern plains. It's entertaining in enough of itself to see the main protagonist (Naru) walk through them. Though I do gotta say the CGI on the animals look pretty bad most of the time.

Our main protagonist, Naru is a wonderful character, she's a complete underdog who wants to prove to her tribe (The Comanche) that she can hunt just as good as a man. It's a great coming of age story that has you rooting for her all the way through. The first 30 minutes of the movie do a great job of immersing you into the world. What's even better is that, there's a version of the movie that replaces english with the native tounge of the Comanche tribe. If you plan on giving this movie a watch I heavily encourage you to watch the Comanche dub for the full immersion.

The Predator himself was awesome! I love how in this movie the weapons and tech he carries are pretty old and isn't up to par with 1987's Predator. Which leads to all new weapons being used and even some insanely creative kills. Seriously, some of the kills in this movie serve as Mortal Kombat fatalities too. The gore is also great, not too over abundant and not too little. I love how at the start the Predator is actually fist fighting animals he comes across and busts out the weapons when humans get involved.

The design of the Predator is also pretty good, you can tell right off the bat how primal this Predator looks compared to what's to come. I'm not sure how to feel about his mask though. On one hand I love it because it fits with the time period this movie takes place in, but part of me wishes it was the simple and classic Predator design of Predator 1 and 2.

All in all, I was very happy with this movie. It's a great watch, very, very, enjoyable. I highly recommend this movie to horror and action movie fans, it's totally worth it!

Also if anybody was curious about my ranking of Predator movies:

  • 1. Predator (1987)
  • 2. Prey
  • 3. Predator 2
  • 4. Predators (2010)
  • 5. Alien Vs Predator
  • 6. The Predator (2018)
  • 7. Alien Vs Predator: Requiem
