Welcome! Today I will confess a Cardinal sin; in other words, today I confess that I find the film My Little Pony: Equestria Girls to be the worst thing generation 4 has put out bar none. While interesting in the concept with a few salvageable pieces. The majority of Equestria Girls is a boring and generic high school setting with a story that feels like High School Musical and My Little Pony thrown into a blender.
The music and songs are forgettable; I seriously do not remember a single song from that movie. The whole experience wasn't terrible, the animation was fine, and Sunset Shimmer was an alright villain. (Starlight Glimmer basically is a retooled Sunset Shimmer), aside from the presentation, nothing from this movie matters to the larger story. Which is good and bad.
Good if you're like me, and don't care for the film, but awful if you're a fan since Sunset Shimmer only appears in the last episode in a jump shot as Twilight concludes the finale. The biggest problem with Equestria Girls is that it feels like a generic High School/Coffee Shop AU fan fic that got adopted and seriously produced by Hasbro.
Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're a fan), Equestria Girls had three sequel films and a series of shorts, and it left a sort of quality standard for humanized pony art and fan fiction. Since an established universe exists where humans (in some form) exist. Oh well, whether you like it or not, it's at the very least inoffensive and doesn't conflict with MLP:FiM. So we can all get along....in theory.
