Rating scale:

10/10: Perfect season! Amazing and flawless!
9/10: Awesome season. It has minor flaws but has more positives than negatives.
8/10: Great season. It has several problems but not enough to ruin it.
7/10: It’s actually good. It has a lot of issues although mildly entertaining.
6/10: It’s decent enough to be passable.
5/10: It’s meh; neither terrible nor great.
4/10: Nah, it’s really bad.
3/10: What’s that mediocre smell?
2/10: Something is on fire! It’s a dumpster fire!
1/10: Mayday! Mayday! The season is rotting away!

Good morning, folks. This is Mr. J back with another season review for today. This morning, I will be reviewing the fourth season of The Batman. In my honest opinion, this season was just not as good as the first three seasons; however, that isn’t to say that it didn’t have a solid payoff and a pretty okay conclusion to the season thereof. So while it isn’t terrible per say, it wasn’t that amazing either.

The season re-introduced the legendary Dick Grayson aka Robin. It did a faithful re-telling of his origin story and had more focus on his character development than the “Robin’s Reckoning” two-parter from the original series did (which was also good btw). We see it actually play out in the present time and not through a flashback, and we see Dick adapt himself pretty well as Robin. What’s pretty interesting is how Batman warmly accepts him into his fold as his partner than how he received Batgirl.

It’s not just because Dick lost his parents and was a mirror reflection of Bruce’s tragedy but also because he earned his right to be his sidekick by directly saving his life and help take down Zucco, not rashly throw himself into the job without any previous work done to earn it like Batgirl did in “Batgirl Begins”.

Speaking of which, Batgirl and Robin’s relationship was both funny and entertaining to see. They are basically siblings in the Bat Family, and seeing Dick being a younger kid unlike his original counterpart, it fits so well with this version of the character.

Oh, and fun little trivia: Zucco was voiced by Mark Hamill (The Joker), and Dick’s father was voiced by Kevin Conroy (The Batman). How amazing is that?! Furthermore, this Robin closely resembles the one from Teen Titans, which makes me think they both belong in the same universe. I mean, they have similar animation style, so why not?

As far as the rest of the season is concerned, it has some ups and downs. It has five boring episodes as the following: “The Everywhere Man”, “Seconds”, “Strange New World”, “Clayfaces”, and “The Breakout”. If you skip these episodes, I can assure you…you won’t miss a thing. Those episodes were boring to sit through, and had some interesting concepts but weren’t executed properly.

“Two of a Kind”, “Riddler’s Revenge”, and Artifacts” were pretty good though. Although I’m not a fan of this Harley’s design, I do like how they wrote her character in this show and made Joker much less abusive towards her than before. That’s pretty cool, in my opinion. The “Artifacts” episode displayed an awesome “into the future” type of premise that had its own version of “The Dark Knight Returns” storyline. Mr. Freeze was a massive walking freezer with more malice than his past self, and Batman simply did not give up. It gave a rich lesson that even though the Dark Knight himself may be gone, those who share his morals and his mission will always be there to stop evil in Gotham.

Riddler had a well-established backstory that made me feel sorry for him and pretty much made him justified in his revenge against his ex-girlfriend. If only he didn’t become a nerdy supervillain in the first place….

Two of my favorite episodes of this season are “Rumors” and “Team Penguin”! The villains working together is always a blast to see up until they get their butts kicked by the Bat Family. Ha, the one thing that often throws bad guys off….is that they don’t work as a unit. Because they focus so much on themselves and not working as a team, they fall again and again and again. Teamwork is key to success, people!

As for the finale, it was overall meh, but it worked for the end of the story. This is where the Justice League is introduced, and they aren’t seen again until the last season. I will talk more about that in my last season review.

So yeah, this season had some unwatchable episodes along with a mediocre finale besides some good and great episodes. I give it a 5/10. And another thing I didn’t like in this season……….

JOKER HAS LESS SCREEN-TIME!!!

(Upset tone) Robin's origin story is a hard one.
