For a while now I've had an interest in coming up with a pony OC, but I never could get around to it because I've been pretty busy as of late. Finally though, I managed to sit my ass down for once and work on it.

At first I was only planning on drawing them but then I got pretty invested in it and decided to come up with a personality, background, likes and dislikes, etc, for my character.

I wanna say it took me about 4 hours each to draw my OC and their filly self. Also real quick I just want to apologize for my coloring, I'm pretty garbage at it. Took me about a week to come up with her character, yeah there were quite a lot of rewrites because I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

So this here is the fruit of my labor and I felt like this would be something interesting to share with you all.

Also yeah I couldn't help but inject a little of myself into her. I think everything turned out pretty alright though.

Short Description

Yaretzi Moreno is an Earth pony mare that lives on the outskirts of Ponyville with her family. She and her family immigrated to Ponyville from Mexicolt when she was a young filly. She occasionally helps out with her father's carpentry business but is also the bass player for a band she and her friends started back during their years in the school of friendship, named Pareidolia. While far from internationally famous, they're quite happy with playing local gigs around Ponyville.

Personality

At face value Yaretzi comes across as shy and quiet to strangers. She won't make any effort to talk to anypony she doesn't know unless absolutely necessary. Despite this however, she tries her best to treat everypony she meets with kindness and politeness. If proven otherwise however, she'll refuse to talk to that pony and even throw some attitude their way.

Once you get to know her though you'll quickly find out that she finds enjoyment in teasing and joking around with her friends and family. She enjoys getting a laugh out of them. She's down to earth, as well as laid back and loyal to those she holds dear. Yaretzi is a great listener as well. Whenever a friend needs advice or wants to vent, she's all ears and even offers a silver lining or a solution.

That being said however, it's rather difficult for Yaretzi to open up to friends and family about things that trouble her. Believing she can solve her own problems and wishes not to trouble anypony about them. She'll often mask her emotions around loved ones and bottle them up. She's very stubborn about it and will constantly reassure everypony that she's fine.

When upset Yaretzi goes into a "silent mode" and prefers to use her anger to do something productive, like cleaning the house for example. She also tends to be sarcastic and unintentionally be rude towards anypony who tries talking to her during this time.

Depending on who and what they did to upset her, she is prone to holding grudges for a long time, never entirely forgetting what they did. She'll even try to think of ways of getting back at them.

Yaretzi is also a bit of a tomboy. Much of her mannerisms and tastes are simple and somewhat masculine. She still however likes feminine things, romantic songs and novels being an example. She also has a habit of swearing a lot, though she tries to tone it down when speaking with strangers.

This is due to her growing up with a little brother. To make it easier to connect with him, she often takes part in things like rough play, going to the movie theater/arcades together, entering Sisterhooves Social events, etc. As a result Yaretzi and her little brother have a very close bond, and because she grew up with a brother she tends to act more coltish.

Yaretzi is also very proud of her culture. She's always happy to share food and music with her friends. She often times invites them to holidays that she and her family celebrate in Mexicolt. Since she was young she was taught by her parents to be proud of where she comes from.

Filly Years

To put it bluntly, she was a pain in the ass. Yaretzi was a energetic little filly and a bit of a troublemaker. She constantly had behavioral problems in her early school years.

This was also around the time when she had to learn a new language, as she was accustomed to only speaking Spanish. Other ponies often made fun of her for her speaking difficulties.

Yaretzi however wasn't afraid of getting into fights or insulting her bullies back. Because of this she had trouble making friends when she was young. As the years progressed though, and with Cheerilee's support and guidance while in school, she has since mellowed out and has changed to be somewhat of a polar opposite of what she used to be. Some traits from her childhood still remain however.

When Yaretzi and her family first came to Ponyville, her parents both worked as hired hands for the Apple family. Over the years the two families would develop a friendship, as they would occasionally help each other out and invite one another to social gatherings. Essentially good neighbors. It was here that Yaretzi would make her first friend, Apple Bloom. The two would stick side by side over the years, becoming good friends.

Cutie Mark

Yaretzi's cutie mark is a black bass guitar with a red ribbon wrapped around it from top to bottom.

How She Got It:

As a filly Yaretzi always appreciated bass in music, it's a subtle part of songs but without it everything else doesn't hold up as good. It was a part she could relate to, which drove her to practice the instrument. However she would only see it as a hobby and wouldn't receive her cutie mark until she was much older.

One day there was a talent show that was going to be held at the school of friendship. Yaretzi and her friends saw this as their chance to finally live out their dream of playing as a band in front of a crowd.

The day of the talent show had arrived and after battling some stage fright, and a proper soundcheck, they proceeded to play in front of the school. After everything was said and done, and they received their cheers, Yaretzi noticed she had finally received her cutie mark.

The Band

Following the talent show performance, Yaretzi and her friends wanted to keep the band going, out of love for the heavy, meaningful, and fun music that their favorite bands made. If they were able to grow an audience that loved their particular style of music, that would be even better! After going through a bunch of names they eventually settled on the name Pareidolia.

Throughout their remaining years in the friendship school, Pareidolia would play local gigs around Ponyville. Eventually growing themselves a decently sized fan base. As a result, they have attracted the attention of record labels but the band has yet to make a decision on their next move. Their musical style mainly consists of alternative rock, with a touch of punk and metal here and there.

As stated earlier Yaretzi is the bassist for the band but occasionally sings backup vocals as well. She also helps with songwriting and has expressed interest in singing lead vocals on a song one day, when she works up the nerve to, that is.

I gotta say I had a ton of fun drawing and coming up with a personality, background, etc, for a character, I might try it again some other time. Due let me know what you guys thought about her. Before I end this off though I have one more small thing to share. Over the course of me brainstorming some ideas for Yaretzi. I had an idea of making a playlist of songs that Yaretzi likes to play along to, as well as songs she just loves in general. Making playlists is a hobby I really enjoy so I made her one with around 100 songs. If anybody is at all interested in checking it out, I made it for both YouTube and Spotify.
