Hey, everyone. This is Mr. J back with another movie review for tonight. I will now be reviewing the third installment of the Ice Age series: Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. This was a very entertaining and enjoyable sequel that had much better quality than did the last movie. Also, this was yet another one of my childhood favorite movies that I loved watching occasionally. Although, to be honest, I haven’t seen this film for quite a long time; fortunately, I was able to re-watch this movie a couple months ago to see if it was as good as I remember. Even though it’s not perfect or amazing in any way, I still think it’s better than the previous installment and is full of humorous fun.

This is about Manny getting anxious of being a father as his new wife Ellie is pregnant with his child. While Diego decides to move on with his life, Sid feels lonely with no one to hang out with since he too felt that Many wouldn’t need his friends anymore. Thus, he ventures on his own and stumbles upon three dinosaur eggs from below the ice surface. He takes them and claims them as his own children without realizing the disastrous consequences that will follow—encountering a whole new world of dinosaurs.

First off, I was surprised that this movie has a lot of adult jokes that flew over my head when I was a kid. Some of them felt unfunny and forced whereas the others were a little clever even for my taste. But the funniest part of the movie was the scene where Manny and the others were laughing from the laughter gas...I think that’s what that was. Did the writers take inspiration from Joker’s joker gas? If that’s the case, they make me so proud! I really enjoyed that scene.

However, the only thing I hated about this movie was the way they delivered the message about loneliness. It felt like this film was talking down on loners that if they don’t have friends or family, they will go batshit crazy by talking to inanimate objects. I get that depression can take a toll on people like that (I know how that feels like), but that’s still a demeaning and patronizing message which doesn’t help anyone in my opinion especially to introverts such as myself. If you truly want to be alone and walk in your own journey to find some peace or happiness in life, go for it! Don’t let anyone force you to do otherwise especially if they’re toxic.

The animation is great, the voice acting is amazing, and Bucky was an overall enjoyable character. Simon Pegg did a terrific performance as Buck the Weasel.

The dinosaurs were pretty much awesome to look at even in their 3D animated form. Although I question why none of the dinosaurs could talk, at least they were able to communicate through their body language and facial expressions. Thus, they too can be serviceable characters that can benefit the story and not just sitting there with no substance and only for the action sequences. So the animators did a great job in that department.

Overall, this movie still holds up to this day and deserves a solid 7/10. Oh, and the love/hate relationship between Scrat and the female Scrat was both adorable, weird, and hilarious. But we all know that the elusive acorn is Scrat’s one true love, don’t we?

Peace.
