New Art & A Spooky Plan of Action!

It's October, the spooky month, and that makes this an excellent month to release the starting chapters of a new mystery story! The Princess in the Coffee Shop has a new cover image by Helmie waiting for a coordinated release along with the launch of the story. It was really cool getting to commission him, and I'm really excited for you all

    My Schemes and I.

Right, so let's talk about what I'm writing next!

I've got three projects in the works. Two of them are stepping-stone projects designed to bring me back up to speed with a regular pace of writing. These are similar in principle to Premonitions but with a greatly expanded scope. Right now I'm calling them:

    • The Princess in the Coffee Shop
    • Victory: Rising

    Science Fiction Contest Results!

You know, when I started this little prequel to my upcoming Victory Universe, I wasn't actually all that sure of what would happen to it within the context of the contest I was writing it for. Would it win big? Would it be forgotten in the entry pile? I honestly feared both options. Premonitions was the very first act of a writer, like the Tin Man of Oz, shaking off more than a

    A Hopefull Request!

I've already started on my next story, but I've hit an interesting snag. One of the characters in this new story is a character originally from The IDW Comics called Cosmos, and there's no tags for that character on this site! From what i can tell, FiM Fiction's tags are manually entered by the site admins. I'd appreciate it if somepony added Cosmos! She's a really cool canon character that

    Victory: Premonitions is Completed!

I was able to get a final edit of Chapter 6 uploaded last night. It took a few small adjustments to get the overall word count under 20K. Thankfully, nothing significant was lost in that transition. The original version of the final edit was 20,126 words compared to the final count of 19,997 words. That cut it very close to the contest's cap! In all of the site views that display the truncated

I'll be writing them in tandem, but there's a much higher chance of one of these stories releasing entirely ahead of the other. This is primarily because I've learned that having cover art for these digital works is actually fairly important for front-page visibility and early viewership. I don't want to make the mistake of releasing the first chapters without accompanying imagery again. Additionally, I think this time around I might build a small collection of the first few chapters and release them all at once at the story's launch before serializing the remainder. That way people that click on the story on the first day are more heavily rewarded for engaging with the work early on. This does leave me slightly more open to being blindsided by initial feedback but it's a trade I might be willing to make if it means boosting my first-day numbers. I can always go back and make revisions like I did with Premonitions.

So, let's dive into both of these a little bit, starting with the one that's likely to have its art ready first:

The Princess in the Coffee Shop is a very different kind of story from Premonitions. This is going to be a set of mysterious murder cases set in a version of Manehattan based on a much more old-timey version of New York City than what was presented in the show. I've been rereading my collection of Sherlock Holmes in prep for this and I'm very excited to see it start releasing soon™! I've got a number of commissions ongoing with various artists that should make excellent cover-art for this story so this will likely be the first of these two to start releasing.

Victory: Rising is a sequel to Premonitions set decades after the previous tale. It's once again a prequel to the main-line Victory Universe and should be the final lead-in to the main entry that I came here to write in the first place. I've considered changing the names of these stories to better reflect their prequel status, likely by adding something in front like "Road to" or "Path to", but I may land up using the "to Victory" name to refer to the group of prequels overall and leave the individual names as-is. I've got more completed on this one story-wise, but I don't have cover art in the pipeline for it yet so it may be quite a while before you see this one.

The third story is one of those mega projects that I actually came back to write in the first place. It's really exciting for me to be in a place where I can actually see myself being able to do this one proper justice. It's going to be the start of something really interesting and is itself very different from the stuff in the Victory Universe. I don't want to share too many details this early on, but I think it's safe to say that this third story is going to be a Fallout Equestria Story. Yep. I said it.

If all of this sounds like a lot, that's because it is! I'm not saying this is all going to happen right away, not by any means, but the plan is to get there eventually. This all just an outlet for my creative writing, and I do this for fun anyway, so I'll get around to everything sooner or later! For now though, this is the shape of things moving forward: The Mystery, Rising, and the start of the mega-project.

Hopefully these continue to go well!
