Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with more The Owl House content! Tonight, I will be reviewing the thirteenth episode of the series entitled: “The First Day”. This episode is about Luz’s first day of attending Hexside where she would learn and encounter many surprises; filled with curiosity, she planned to explore multiple covens within Hexside. However, Principal Bump denies her that opportunity and tells her that she must choose only one coven. After getting herself in trouble for “mixing magic”, she is sent to the detention track where she will not learn magic until next school year. There, she meets new friends who show her their secret hideout.

This is yet one of season one’s best episodes mostly because it has some new characters who are full of unique personalities and have a fun sense of humor. One of those characters being Viney:

She is one of those cartoon characters that have some sort of mischievous trait in them yet are sweet in the inside. Not to mention that she has a pretty amazing character design. To me, she represents those group of people who are outcasts and who don’t feel appreciated or acknowledged for the unique talents they have that defines them who they are and want to do in life—something that makes them authentic. So I’m really happy with the way they introduced her in this show, and I look forward to seeing what role she might play later in the show.

Again, the morals this show teaches are quite simple and straightforward, I love it! This one in particular re-enforces how important it is to choose your own path in which to walk in. Plus, you don’t have to settle with one gift or one thing that you’re good at. If you want to try out other things you’re interested in, go for it! Don’t let anyone tell you that you should only do this or that. We all have the freedom to decide what we want to do that can benefit others. So, this episode did a great job in showing that aspect.

This easily gets an A for the new interesting characters, the voice acting, the animation, and the plot. Like I said, none of these episodes feel like pointless filler which says a lot about the effort and the passion put into the series by Dana Terrace and her team. Great episode for sure.

Peace!
