Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! This is your friend Mr. J back with another movie review for tonight! This evening, I will be reviewing yet another direct-to-video superhero animated film entitled Justice League vs The Fatal Five from 2019. This is yet another brilliantly-written DC animated movie that does justice to the characters and maintained the depth and complexity of the story for every character involved. Not to mention it has really good voice acting too. This film has great animation, solid character growth, impressive action scenes, and a well-done plot. Plus, this movie is actually faithful to the title for once because it does involve a battle against the Fatal Five throughout the entire movie, not for the sole purpose of looking cool by appearance only in a clickbaity way.

This movie is about a team of young heroes/heroines called the Legion of Super-Heroes who are fighting against an evil syndicate of villains called the Fatal Five (Emerald Empress, The Persuader, Validus, Mano, and Tharok). The latter threaten to destroy the Earth, and both the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Justice League must work together to stop them.

This has a wonderful storyline that focuses on Jessica Cruz’s character arch as well as the character development of other young characters like her. I especially liked how human Jessica was and how she had to overcome the pain she suffered from her traumatic experience and maintain her peace of mind as Green Lantern. Diane Guerrero did a wonderful job in voicing her character. She is definitely my favorite character in this movie besides Batman and Emerald Empress.

I was blown away at how deliciously evil, intelligent, charming, and beautiful Emerald was as the leader of the Fatal Five. Her character design is gorgeous and her personality is top-notch. The fact that Sumalee Montano actually voiced her in this movie is both surprising and perfect. She stood out to me out of all the five villains due to these reasons.

The other villains were pretty cool too. Their designs, personalities, and unique capabilities made them stand apart from each other and made them quite entertaining to watch.

The music was well-composed although not too memorable in my opinion, and the animation was excellent in every way. Props to Sam Liu for directing this animated work of art and to the screenwriters Alan Burnett, James Krieg, and Eric Carrasco for the splendid ideas they incorporated into this and doing their part in being faithful to the source material provided.

So overall, I really enjoyed this movie all the way through and this should be regarded as one of the best animated DC films for the DCAU. I give this a solid 10/10!

Peace!
