Visions Review · 5:32am Jan 22nd, 2022

Date of Release: January 14, 2022

Red Vox is an American indie rock band that formed in Staten Island, New York, in 2015 by Co-founders, Vincent "Vinny" and Mike.
The band's members consist of:

  • Vincent "Vinny" (Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer, Keyboard)
  • Mike (Drums)
  • Joe (Bass, Studio Production)
  • Billy (Keyboard, Piano, Bass)

Known to not necessarily commit to one genre. Red Vox has released 5 Studio albums and 2 EPs.

Each album has their own thing going on that makes them unique. What Could go wrong their debut album is more akin to 90's alternative and indie rock. Another light is guided more towards Psychedelic rock, Kerosene is an acoustic album with more mellow driven songs. Lastly Realign is very synth heavy, experimental, and groovy.

I'm not even sure how I came across them but I'm glad I did, Red Vox is one of my favorite most recent bands. Their albums What Could go wrong and Another light will forever have a special place in my heart as they were both albums I listened to heavily back in my sophomore year of High School.

I was actually fortunate enough to catch their premier livestream for their latest release Visions. An album that takes the band back to their hard rock sound of their debut album while still retaining their psychedelic sound from Another light.

Songs

Visions and Afterthoughts
This song does an alright job as the starter song for the album. Mike's drumming on here is tight and sounds nice. Vinny's guitar work on here is beautiful as well. Though the song ends in an unsatisfactory, abrupt way that I kinda don't like. Though to it's credit I do find it cool that it ends with the exact same chords it starts off with.

Middle of the Street
Vinny's vocals on here are very good and mix beautifully with the melody. The use of the keyboard on here adds a sort of magical feeling to this song that I like a lot. Vinny's guitar playing is great and adds a sort of space vibe to the song.

The Temple
This song starts off menacing, especially with that dark muddy riff that's being played. The drums also sound like someone is slowly coming at you. This one of the few times where Red Vox gets heavy with their songs. I also adore the fast tempo and despite everything having that dirty grunge tone, Vinny's vocals still have that sort of angelic tone to it like a light in the dark. An overall great song, definitely one of my favorites.

Choking on the Spite
I absolutely love the intro to this song as well, the number of times I've repeatedly started the song over just to hear it are insane. The use of a dark, menacing guitar riff remains in this song. Joe's bass on this song kicks ass. Mike does a great job with his drumming on here too. I also love how Vinny's vocals constantly shift octaves on here. The chorus is awesome as well.

Elessar
Toning it down from the previous tracks, Elessar slows down a bit and goes back to the mood of the first two songs. Billy's keyboard makes a welcome return here. Vinny's guitar once again doesn't fail to impress and compliments Mike's drumming perfectly. This song makes you feel like you're lost in space.

There's a Place
Going back to a fast pace, Joe and Mike really shine on here. The bass and drums teaming up makes for a cool sound. Not surprisingly Vinny's vocals still sound majestic as all hell. The electric guitar doesn't fall behind either as it brings a lot to the table as well. The chorus does a fun little "back and forth" here as well.

Winning the Most
This song has a Ska vibe to it, something Red Vox hasn't done and it sounds awesome. Mike's drumming gives this song a bouncy feel to it. Paired with Vinny's sort of "itching" playing of the chords sounds cool. Joe's bass is kickass on here. I especially love the chorus on this track.

All About a Feeling
The start of this song has a sort of derpy sounding feel to it. Something I feel kind eh on but it's immediately followed by Vinny's heavenly vocals and the song going on a higher pitch which I like a lot. There's no much else to mention here, it's a pretty alright track.

I'll Know
Taking a much serious tone, this song has a melancholy vibe to it, with a bit of anger too. I also like how it has a false ending only to start right back up. Vinny's guitar and Joe's bass slap hard on here as well. This song has a "walking alone in the middle of the night" vibe to it.

There's a Time
The final song, this one starts of with the use of arpeggios that make it feel like you're dreaming, really this whole song gives off that tone. Vinny's vocals are soft on here, almost like he's singing a lullaby to you. Joe's bass is really booming which surprisingly sounds soothing. The use of synthesizers makes this whole song sound so much better. Overall this was such a great song to end off on.

Final Thoughts
In conclusion this was a solid entry to Red Vox's discography. It doesn't break new ground but that's okay I still really enjoyed it regardless. Though it does have it's problems, notably the starting song I can take it or leave it. Really my only problem the starting song is pretty bland. This album really shines in the middle and the end. I'd still say it's better than Kerosene and just barley underneath Realign.

Not a lot is known about this band, they hardly ever play live, they've only done so on one occasion. Though it's crazy to think two livestreamers are able to create such amazing music.
Yeah you heard that right, Vinny and Mike are both livestreamers that stream on twitch and play videogames almost every other day. Vinny is notable for leading Vinesauce a group of livestreamers and Mike goes by the name Jabroni Mike on Twitch. Both were friends since college so they've known each other for years.

Being a fan of Vinesauce for a couple years and then finding out that Vinny started a band that makes genuine good fucking music blew my mind. So needless to say if you're a fan of indie rock or just want something new and cool to listen to. I'd definitely check this album out as well as Red Vox

If I had to rate it out of 10: 8/10
