I just can't take it anymore- I love writing and I want to hit that novel mark of 40k words, but Blue Skies just feels like chains wrapped around my arms and legs.
I want to write it- but as soon as I try I feel like I'm running through a mud pit.
There are several reasons why, but the major is this
Purple Skies.
Blue Skies is probably the best thing I've ever written, and possibly will be- but it's starting to become malpractice because of what it's based off of
Purple Skies (I know some of you like it, but I just sort of don't)
The beginning to it was nice, I like how I opened it with sort of an intro to the characters
But this is what happened
I had nothing planned for it, at all
Everyday from school I just came home, raced to my laptop and started writing what I thought would make a good chapter for the day.
And the result? Characters that feel flat, 2D and shallow, so very shallow.
The plot was weak.
Allow me to summarize what Purple was
Twilight and Soarin' both feel lonley and want to find a boy/girlfriend. A festival pops up and they both go, Twilight looks at a very charismatic figure and like most love at first sight, saw a very handsome stallion.
Soarin' just looked out and picked a girl he thought looked nice
And then click, there they go.
They spent time together in the festival, the thought of Soarin' leaving once it's over imminent
Rd gets mad (of course)
Rd gets better, back to friends
Soarin crashes later, ruining his wings to where he can now stay with Twi
the end
I mean, it's not so terrible I hate it- I still like Purple but I feel like Stephen Myer right now.
Shallow romances about fake creatures that involve Twilight. (lol)
All that isn't to bad, but it's just terribly written and all of that goodness. and the fact it's love at first sight stumps me a bit too- but hey, it's what I wrote.
Here's the line:
I am not canceling Blue, nor am I rushing it's end.
I am not rushing it because the last time I did that (Applebloom's Vendetta) it cut the story in half, and I regretted doing it later because today I want to remake that story to make it great, so rushing it would only make things worse.
I'm not canceling it, just for the sake of me hating on giving up- and that I love Blue Skies dearly.
My ideas beckon me, old and new, but the chains of Blue restrict me and I have to break free for the sake of my Mistress that is writing.
I want to prove I'm a good writer, and I could give less shits about EqD, but I just want on there just to say I can.
Hiatus for now until I feel the need to write for Blue again.
I'm outdated... I'm from the times in which Fimfiction had no more than 5 thousand members, but now that it's beginning to overflow I need to pick up the pace and get rolling.
I hate being outdated.
I refuse to.
And so I hope I don't make anyone sad about stopping Blue for the moment.
But think of it like this- it's not too much of a difference... I've gotten like a chapter a month out or so for only 2-5k words, but I could write 10x that amount on something I really want to do.

I believe my skills lie in editing really- but Writing is more fun.

Well it seems you've discovered an common issue with romance fics, them getting together to fast. I'm not upset that you are stopping Blue Skies for the time being, get the ideas going and make a triumphant come back that is all I can ask for.

I liked Purple Skies but I agree with you and if its bothering you that much you could try rewriting it.
