Greetings, my dear owlets. This is Mr. J back with more The Owl House content. This evening I will be reviewing the fifth episode of season 1 entitled: “Convention”. This was a lot more intriguing than the previous episode as it has yet another new character and some rivalries being formed. This episode shows us how even old or new enemies can be relatable to some degree when we understand where they’re coming from and just how different both parties are when it comes to values and beliefs.

Aside from the brilliant voice acting and soundtrack, I think I should take the time to acknowledge this new character named Lilith Clawthorne!

She is yet another one of my favorite characters in this whole show so far. She has an amusing personality, no-nonsense demeanor, and is an overall interesting character. She is an elder sister of Eda Clawthorne who hates everything the latter stands for. In this episode, we see she is trying to bring her to the Emperor’s Coven and deliver her to justice; plus, she has her own apprentice Amity participate in a witch’s duel against Luz herself (which the latter challenged the former to do earlier). As the episode unfolded, we see how utterly childish the bickering between Eda and Lilith are—which honestly says a lot about their characters. It’s always so funny to me since it reminds me of the times my sister and I used to bicker with each other over the little things. *Sigh* Good times....

After the conflict ended and Lilith was exposed for cheating in the duel, we see how vulnerable both she and Amity are. This is where Luz begins to develop her relationship with Amity. I really enjoyed those character-developing moments. It even gets better and more enjoyable as the season progressed and unfolded.

Props to Cissy Jones for voicing Lilith in this episode and throughout the rest of the show. Same goes to Wendie Malick in voicing Eda especially for the incredible yet hilarious dynamic their characters have with each other as sisters. It’s just amazing. So yeah, I honestly enjoyed this episode. This gets an A-.

Peace.
