Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with more The Owl House content! Today, I will be reviewing the second episode of season 1 entitled “Witches Before Wizards”. Personally, this was yet another wonderfully-made episode as we see our main character fully determined to be a successful apprentice to Eda despite the fact that the latter was not in a mood for any of that. Throughout this season, Eda has been demonstrating time and again why she is one of my favorite characters in this. Everything about her is just... perfect. Hehe, can’t blame me for loving this woman, y’know?

Anyway, Luz is trying to impress Eda that she is more than ready to learn to be witch. Still, things do not go as planned as Eda has her do chores for her since she is under her tutelage. Luz however is not satisfied with this, and the fact that everyone in the Boiling Isles is scared of her didn’t make it any better. Later on, we see that Luz seeks the help of a wizard named Adegast who sympathizes with her. He gives her a map which tells her of a path, according to a prophecy, that she is the chosen one and is destined for great things by wielding the Staff.

Encouraged, she tells Eda and King about this, but they tell her that it is fake and not everything is legit. Luz is discouraged and angered by this, but once she sees the hidden message that she was indeed “chosen”, she goes to the “special path” on her own despite Eda’s warnings. And boy, did Luz learn the hard way once she discovers that the prophecy, the chosen path, and even some of the other guys whom Luz was guided by were all fake and were set up as a trap for her.

I thought this was a great way to send the message that we must be careful not to always believe everything that is taught us or what we watch especially on the media. We are to choose for ourselves what to follow and believe in ourselves that we can do great things. It may take time to grow, but we have to be patient and allow ourselves to develop maturely. That’s what I got out of this episode.

Once again, the voice actors and actresses nailed it in this episode especially Robin Atkin Downes in voicing Adegast.

Overall, this was a very fun episode which deserves a solid A!

Peace!

Wait… Robin Atkin Downes is in this episode? As in the same Robin Atkin Downes who voices the Medic in Team Fortress 2 and Niles Samson in Gears of War 2 and 5?

Shit. I legitimately never noticed.
