Killer Croc · 4:09pm Oct 21st, 2021

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! This is Mr. J! Today, I want to express my thoughts on yet another DC super-villain by the name of Killer Croc. Croc is yet another one of my favorite villains in DC and one of my favorite Batman characters of all time. What I especially like about this dude is his ferocious personality and crocodile-like appearance. I may not be a fan of reptiles in general, but this guy is definitely a force to be reckoned with! And yes, I am referring to Croc from The Batman (2004). Seriously, I will never stop talking about how that show’s villains had some of the most badass designs ever.

Back to Croc, this series likewise introduced me to him. Unlike most iterations of the namesake, this guy actually looks like a crocodile and has actual intelligence and skills that make him unique as a character and much more a formidable opponent for Batman. Because honestly, one of the main issues I have with most versions is that they behave more like dumb brutes with little personality. If I had to pick which version had the most mediocre design of them all, it would definitely be the one from Batman: The Animated Series. He looked more like a mutated humanoid zombie than a crocodile.

But this version is actually one of—if not the most competent version of Killer Croc that exists. He has charisma, cunningness, intelligence, and an entertaining characterization that made him memorable to me and other fans of this show. Plus, he was voiced by Ron Perlman which is a bonus. I also liked his Cajun accent. That was pretty cool. Here is a demonstration of that:

To give some brief historical background of the mainstream character, he was first seen in the comics for a cameo in Detective Comics issue #523 around February 1983 until he made his first full appearance in issue #524 around March 1983. His real name was Waylon Jones who suffered a genetic skin condition that gave him a crocodile-like appearance. In regards to the character in The Batman (2004), his actual backstory is unknown except that he is ex-military of the mercenary type. Again, that’s one of the things that make him unique as a villain at least in my opinion.

So yeah, this show made Killer Croc one of my favorite Batman villains of all time. As much as I love The Joker, I seriously think other members of Batman’s rogue gallery need more spotlight. Killer Croc needs to make more appearances in future shows or films; plus, I would LOVE to see him resemble his The Batman counterpart in both personality and appearance. It would also be awesome to have him be the main villain in a future animated Batman movie.

That’s all for today, folks. Have a great day, and don’t let Killer Croc come after you. ;)
