The Unowns resides in another dimension, which means their interaction with humans is limited. that would mean they wouldn't know a good human like Ash and company to an evil human like Giovanni or Hunter J. That means they'd trust easily and they trusted Molly. And because of their psychic powers, they sensed Molly's grief and loneliness. I think they wanted to make Molly happy.
