The Lion King II: Defenders of the Pridelands · 2:07am Jul 13th, 2021
So...I've been working on this story, The Lion King II: Defenders of the Pridelands after reading The Little Pony Legend series written by my good friend, MaggiesHeartLove. She is so filled with magic and inspiration that I just had to start working on a Lion King story on my own. At first, I was only browsing around through AU stories on DeviantArt where Kovu and Vitani are reunited with their birth parents, or there was this fanfic where I read that Kovu was saved from Zira's abuse that I wanted to write my own tale on it.
After discovering MaggiesHeartLove in my high school days, I thought about getting the courage to work on my own Lion King fanfic, since I used to write short stories about Simba and Nala when I was little. After befriending her, she became my greatest inspiration for this story, even though I had to change the setting, tones, and characters a few times to make it perfect.
At some point, I thought about giving up and throwing it away, but I remembered that if I did, all of my ideas would simply go to waste. Finally, I've got the courage to create a fresh batch of characters, inspired by my favorite anime series, Sailor Moon, with a mixture of African elements here and there and some Disney movies like Tarzan and Pocahontas, I was ready until I remembered one thing I needed to do: worldbuilding.
At first, I was slightly angry and frustrated that even though I did my research on worldbuilding, something was lacking. So, I talked to MaggiesHeartLove and she had told me that worldbuilding doesn't have to be complex, it needs to be simple, and expand as the story goes. That's what I'm doing now. Slowly expanding my African-inspired world.
The story centers around a human girl named Safiya, who is raised by a pride of lions, far from the Pridelands, and is determined to find out her destiny after receiving strange dreams, only calling out to her. It's a story centered around friendship, family, romance, and Safiya's journey to discover not only her past, but attending Lion Crest Academy in Xanthus, and teaming up with a group of teenagers with a far greater secret that no one doesn't know about and defeat Scar once and for all.
The first part of the story is inspired by Pocahontas, except it's a bit different. I won't be revealing much of it, but the Kingdom of Xanthus wants peace with the nation of Nyika, by intermixing their cultures together.
I would try to post the character guide tomorrow since I don't want to spoil anything.
