Hey, fellas. Tonight, I will be reviewing yet another one of these mediocre, forgettable direct-to-video sequels of the Walt Disney universe. This is entitled Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World . Wow, this film is just so boring, uninspiring, and completely meaningless when it comes to the story and the characters. As if the mediocrity of the first one wasn’t enough, we have yet a second film of the same name being even worse than the first. It’s a surprise I actually remember this story well enough to realize just how insignificant it really is.

Aside from the decent voice acting and great animation, the story falls flat on the ground as it now attempts to be historically accurate in regards to Pocahontas’ relationship with this new guy called John Rolfe. Again, I will not base this review on its historical accuracy and will only write this on what I personally feel about this.

First off, John Rolfe is a boring deuteragonist. I’m just going to say this right off the bat. He’s one of the most boring Disney Sequel characters in existence. That’s all I have to say of him. Secondly, they brought back John Smith—the hero from the first movie—just to apparently kill him off. That was interesting at first until I saw him as a hooded figure. Honestly, I was already able to tell it was him in the hood since his face was a little obvious the first time I watched this as a kid. When he revealed himself at the end, I wasn’t surprised.

It was a decent twist until they turned this whole thing into a short-lived love triangle between him, Rolfe, and Pocahontas. Even worse, Rolfe basically replaced him as the new love interest for her and Smith is now irrelevant to the story. He was only there for the plot. So what was the point of that?

I will never forget the perfect summarization SmurfsVlog gave during his reaction to the movie on his YouTube channel and I quote: “So they basically killed off John only to bring back John only to replace John with another John.” Honestly, I could not have said it better myself.

The love story is a mess, the humor is lackluster, the new characters were a hit and miss, and the plot was stupid and boring. The only good part of this whole thing were the voice performances of the late David Ogden Stiers as Ratcliffe and Jim Cummings as King James. Other than that, this entire movie is utterly ridiculous and a snore-fest. This gets a 3/10 from me. If you like this one, more power to you. 👍🏼

Peace.
