So, shifting from the serious atmosphere of my last blog post... Recently—like, within six or so months—I've learned to cook. A bit late, sure, but better now than never. I'll be honest, I was always a bit afraid of the kitchen. Grease popping, hot flames, exhaustion, and the end result: A disappointing meal.
But the kitchen is not to be fear! It isn't that bad, really. Sure, it takes a bit to get into a groove; not THE groove, A groove. Everyone is different. Some follow the recipe to the letter, others freestyle a bit. But, in the end, you're cooking something.
And... yes, grease popping hurts, but, quit being a baby. Pain sucks, get over it. The flames are hot, but, eh, they could be worse. The exhaustion is obnoxious, but, just keep some water or a sports drink handy.
If you want to get into cooking, but you're a bit afraid like I was, start with something small, easy, and safe. Like an omelette. Sauté butter in a pan, or heat oil, crack two eggs in the pan, use a fork and scrape back and forth, all around to scramble the yolk. You'll get a pool of yellow egg stuff. Heat on medium low 'till the egg stuff gets solidish. When you can actually move it about and nothing's bouncy and runny, that's just about when you can flip it. Don't get fancy, ya hear? Just use a spatula. After it's all flipped over, you're pretty much done. Let it cook for a bit longer, add some cheese or bacon—or both—if you please, then flip one side to the other. Lift the omelette, put it on a plate, and there's breakfast for ya!
And hey, if you botch the flip, that's easy scrambled eggs for ya. Hope you learned something. Peace!
