Hey, guys. Here is my review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I had low expectations before watching this movie, but after I watched it, I actually liked this movie. Throughout the whole film, it was filled with exciting, engaging, and epic moments that can send chills to one’s spine. Even now, I can say that it is a perfect midquel between The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. So, let’s talk about what really worked for me in this film:

The characters: Chris Evans does a great job portraying Steve Rogers/Captain America in these movies. He has the mature, thoughtful, intelligent, humorous, and cautious personality as a leader and does everything he can to keep those he loves and everyone else from harm’s way. He is like the Superman of the Avengers. Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. The first time I’ve seen her was in Iron Man 2, and ever since then I actually liked her. The more I watched her, her personality, her character, her demeanor, and her overall role, the more I have grown to appreciate her as a supporting protagonist. She was also awesome in this movie. In fact, Captain America and Black Widow worked well as a dynamic duo for me. That was really cool. Falcon was splendid as well. I think this is the first I’ve seen this version of Falcon in the Marvel universe. I like his personality and his sense of humor. Not much comedy relief characters I’ve watched before were as entertaining as this guy. That’s because that balanced him with being funny and being serious. Keep that up, filmmakers.

2). The villains: Let me start with the titular antagonist: the Winter Soldier. Oh my goodness, this dude was a threat and a force to be reckoned with—oh wait... he was brainwashed by H.Y.D.R.A. Oh... well, at least he was still an intimidating “villain” who actually had the “silent but deadly” attitude going on. I actually felt sorry for Bucky Barnes as he was continually tormented by his superiors to do their bidding that would ultimately fulfill their evil plans. Speaking of which, the H.Y.D.R.A were actually an interesting organization of villains who put up a good threat. I mean, when you get to the climax of the movie, your heart starts to beat with anxiousness to see if Rogers will save the whole city or not especially from those giant aircrafts that were filled with all sorts of artillery. Man, those guys were scary and threatening. Lastly, this gentleman... Alexander Pierce. To be honest, I hate this villain. His smugness just triggered me and made me hope he would be killed off. At the end, I was very happy that happened. Great job, Nick Fury!

3). The story: The plot was very entertaining, exciting, engaging, and enjoyable. The soundtrack was good, the CGI was great, and the action scenes were terrific. Those are the sort of things you expect to see in an action-packed film. But not just that but also in a movie that is also focused on a plot and story telling as it is supposed to and not just a brainless action flick. Oh, and the humor was really good too. There were moments where I laughed out loud as their purpose was to lighten the mood. Thankfully, they didn’t constantly throw humor at your face during serious action sequences that would kill the tension therein. Props to the writers and filmmakers for keeping that crucial detail in mind.

Overall, this is a great film. I rate it a 10/10. By the way, remember that post credit scene where we see Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch for the first time? Well, we also saw potential would-be villains besides them for Age of Ultron... and that only lasted for that movie’s prologue. Reality is often disappointing (Sigh).

Peace.

I actually theorized Bucky was the Winter Soldier.
