Hello, friends. Here is my review of The LEGO Batman Movie. To tell you all the truth, I had a thing for legos when I was a kid. To build everything on top of a lego with another was really a great experience. We all loved playing legos, right? I even had a Wii game called LEGO Batman. It felt good to play LEGO video games like that but to watch a LEGO movie? Ehhh, for me, it’s a different thing. After watching this movie, I felt a little bitter, disappointed, and slightly disgusted with how they handled Batman in this. Let’s talk about it, shall we?

PROS:

1). Just like with Transformers: Age of Extinction, they attempted to wash Batman with the cleaning cloth of personality and unusual character growth. I can commend them for that, but it led to a serious problem that will be addressed in the first point in the cons section.

2). The visuals were eye-catching, and seeing everything lego-based was... entertaining to some extent.

3). The ending was decent with the heroes and villains working together to save the city from complete destruction.

4). Batman and The Joker’s relationship was... adorable I guess? Wow, I can’t believe I actually said that.

CONS:

1). Now let’s get down to real business. Batman is portrayed as a complete selfish and goofy doofus. Also, I hated his voice in this film. He sounded way too much like Christian Bale’s Batman whenever he spoke in his Batman voice. He does not sound like the actual Batman; rather, he sounds more like a desperate parody trying to imitate Christian Bale. Third, I didn’t like how that he acted like a cocky child always doing things his way and barely payed any attention to Robin or anyone else. “Hey, let’s take away every element that defines Batman and portray him as an egotistical idiot just for comedy’s sake! We’ll make him as a bad guy who needs to learn a lesson because why not?!” Will Arnett did his absolute best, but he was simply miscast in my opinion.

2). Alfred was a little too flanderized in this film. I know he is Bruce’s butler, guardian, and father figure, but he had the audacity to ground Batman and treats him like a child?? Well, Batman does act like one here, so I guess that’s warranted. Still, Alfred is much better than this.

3). The Joker was acting like a butthurt ex-girlfriend to Batman. Speaking of which, their undertones are just... not subtle enough. When they said, “I hate you. I hate you more! I hate you forever.” I was like, “They weren’t subtle at all.” Yes, The Joker is known for having a strange, complicated affection for the Dark Knight but that’s the point. It has to be subtle and complex, not blatantly obvious and open about it. The Joker was okay, but he could’ve done much better in this film.

4). The music and soundtrack were just average.

5). The voice acting was okay at best. Not great but not awful either.

6). The story was below average. It tried really hard to make Batman a different character then what he was already established in the previous films and shows. It was easy to follow, but it was definitely not interesting.

7). Robin was just boring to me. I didn’t like him here, and I hated the way he acted to Bruce. Gosh, he was so annoying.

8). That comment Batman made: “Ironman sucks!” Seriously? Wow... Teen Titans Go did the same thing by trashing on Spider-Man in one episode. DC loves throwing jabs at Marvel, don’t they?

9). Worst of all, the humor was just downright cringe-worthy and unfunny. Not once did I laugh while watching this. Call me a killjoy all you want, but all the jokes they said were not funny.

10). Lastly, the side characters were uninteresting and boring. Their lines of dialogue and characterization were not as good as the characters from the previous films and shows like Batman: The Animated Series.

Overall, this movie felt like a below-average parody. I don’t care if it’s supposed to be a parody because I really did not enjoy this. 4/10. If you enjoy this movie, more power to you. I’m happy you find enjoyment in this movie which I didn’t.

Peace.

I saw it in theater. Thought it stunk like bad cheese.
