    Today In Equestria

So recently, the most momentous occasion in recent Equestrian history happened. A once-in-a-millennia change of power from the Two Sisters over to the young Princess of Friendship. I have no doubt many of you who follow daily news know the talents and accomplishments of Princess Twilight Sparkle. The young alicorn has done her share to promote security, equality, and order in Equestria.

Though, today, the most curious conversation passed by me while I was submitting some paperwork at Manehattan City Hall. Yes, I actually go there, I don't just mail it in like most ponies. Anyway, one gentlepony struck me with the most curious statement as he passed by. "If it were up to me, the change of power would be a gradual process, not just one coronation."

Yes, but it wasn't up to him. Nor any of us. And that got me thinking. Surely the young Princess was trained and prepared for this change, but have we been prepared? My nephew just today reported that new lesson plans were added to his classwork, lessons such as "The History of Friendship: Social Structures of Equestria," and "Understanding Diversity."

Now, I have no problem against these lessons. As a historian I don't think I could. However, not every Manehattan school teachers have the qualifications to teach these lessons. And as I thought about that, more and more changes seemed to be too abrupt for everyday Equestrians. Our nation is governed by a royalty because they have both powers and experiences that inform them how to make Equestria a safer and better place.

But, have any of them ever experienced a change of power before? Perhaps there are some things even the Princesses can't get right. Maybe everyday ponies like you or me should have been asked how this change of crowns would affect us.
