I never paid much attention as to why a good portion of them get so much hate. Off the top of my head, the only ones people really like are Nyx from Past Sins and Ari from Saving Equis (I think that's how the author spelled it). I get if there's a lot of cringe regarding said alicorn, maybe too powerful right off the bat, gets intimate with everyone of the opposite gender, but in those cases I'd hope the author isn't being serious. To be honest, I've been tempted to start a story featuring an alicorn oc just to see how well received it might be. Make him look edgy only to have him act nothing like you'd expect. Human turned alicorn? Have him go through school again?

"What would you like to have as your yearbook quote?"
"Derp."

"Derp." It fits the face I have, not to mention my eyes are looking in different directions. I love the fact I'm still able to go lazy eyed whenever I want.
"OH MY CELESTIA-IT'S SO ADORABLE!"
"Sir that thing's-... Dangerous? What the..."
"WHOOOSSS A GOOD GIRL." She licked my face in response. "Awww I think I'll keep you."
"But your highness, that's illegal!" The guard protested.
"Okay, she'll be a body guard then."
"But-"
"Pecking order~."
