My MLP Story · 3:00am Sep 29th, 2019
With the end of the show coming up very quickly, I felt like it may be a good time to share not just mine, but our MLP stories, how we found ourselves in this fandom, and what this fandom means to us now that the show is coming to a close.
For me, my interest in MLP was non existent through the first season, I heard about it, I didn't care, I used it to tease my friends and at the time boyfriend. A few things happened, and to make sure this story doesn't go on for hours on end - Me and my mother had a disagreement, and she told me I had to leave. I moved down to California where my boyfriend at the time lived, all great and good.
Within 2 weeks of getting there, he started to pressure me for sex, I was resistant, I wasn't ready for that in our relationship yet. He used the fact that he bought me a bus ticket, was giving me free room and board, ect ect, against me - and made me feel incredibly helpless, so under his blackmail I allowed him to sleep with me. Afterwards, I was angry - I told my friends, they told their friends, and somehow it got back to my sister who went big sister mode on the situation.
Needless to say, I was going to be on a bus back home in just a couple days, but in the mean time - I decided to mess with him however I could, he hated MLP with a passion, so I decided to download the entire first season and binge watch it through my last days there as loud as I can play it, when I ran out of episodes I would restart the series again - Eventually he had enough and left me alone to the point he wouldn't leave his room while I was still there.
I got on my bus, went home, and found myself watching the episodes again, it was the in between season 1 and 2, so this was all I had, I started to explore the fandom, and I felt safe, accepted, loved even, and with what I had just been through I didn't know how much I needed that, now here I am, 9 years later and having watched every episode at least twice, writing fanfictions about it, and just being fully involved in the fandom.
This fandom, it means a lot to me - in my darkest times it's what kept me afloat, it spurred me forward and inspired me to do things I never knew I could do, or thought that I would ever do again. I admit, now that the show is ending, I feel a bit of fear about what this means for our community, the fandom at large - but then I remember, that nothing really ends, we keep it in our hearts and minds and through us, through this wonderful, magical community, it will live on.
So, thank you, to this amazing community, and to the show that brought us all together.
I hope, and pray, that those who read this will do as I did, let's share our MLP stories, and make sure this fandom never dies.
Honestly? I don't have much of a story, a friend of mine suggested I check it out once and while I watched the first three episodes I didn't think it was for me (obviously I was wrong). Then around season 4 or 5 I got into a completely different franchise that had nothing to do with MLP, Fallout. One day I checked out Fallout: Equestria, wound up liking it and went on to check out the show itself because I wanted to learn more about it. The rest is history as they say.
Like I said its not much of a story, but I'd like to hear more from others.
