Africa A to Z Facts!: Day #6: "G" · 8:55pm Feb 7th, 2019
It continues my friends, let's get into our next letter:
G is for.....Giraffe!
*The Giraffe is the tallest land mammal in the world. They can range between 13-20ft. tall by adulthood!
*A group of Giraffes is actually called a Tower (honestly didn't know this myself).
*Female Giraffes give birth standing up. A baby can be born head and front hooves first and survive a whopping '4ft. 11in.' fall from being born!
*Baby Giraffe are called calves and can be as tall as 6ft. tall and weigh as much as 150lbs. at birth. (that's about as much as a full grown man of that height!)
*Amazingly, a Giraffe's neck is too short to reach the ground. In order to reach the water to drink, they must awkwardly splay their legs out and bend down to drink (think, the "Circle of Life" scene in The Lion King, when the animals bowed before cub Simba).
*The popular (now defunct) Toys 'R' Us mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe made us all cry as a viral image of the famous giraffe with bags packed and exploring suit on as he got ready to depart from an empty Toys 'R' Us store. Image below:
