Okay, I need to get this off my chest.

THAT IS NOT HOW A CANOE WORKS S8:E9

Let me explain.
In the episode "Non-Compete Clause" Rainbow and Applejack are doing "fun" "teamwork" activities with the annoying school children (The Young Six), but in reality they are just competing for the "Teacher of The Month" award and the student's love and affection. The assigned activities you ask? Menial Labor and Canoeing. After the group does fun menial labor for Applejack they go do Rainbow's activity: Canoeing. This is how they start off:
Notice how they're facing opposite directions? Yes that is on purpose and I have no problem with that. Rainbow and AJ have their two groups going opposite directions and speeds (Guess what? Rainbow want's her group to go fast.). After they fix that little squabble and all sit facing the same way is when it starts happening.

Now here where it all goes wrong. All throughout the canoeing sequence all of the students are all rowing on the same side all the time. Now if you have ever canoed or kayaked or done any other rowing based activity you'll know that you NEED to row on both sides of the boat to actually move, if you do it on just one side you start turning, which is fine if you want to turn, but is not fine if you want to go forward. The way that they're doing it in the episode is all rowers rowing on only one side, which would not, as it show in the episode, make you move forward, it would just make you move in a circle. So no, Rainbow Dash, your canoeing activity would not have had any merit. Also RD is a terrible rowing instructor and should not be allowed near children after causing the boat the LITERALLY EXPLODE INTO TINY PIECES. And the kids were given no instruction on how to properly row so I blame RD and AJ for all my butt hurt.

TL;DR: Rainbow, Applejack, and The Young Six went canoeing and they should've gone in circles but they defied physics and went forward anyway.
