Fifty-One Years Ago, One of the Most Important Television Shows in America Began its First Broadcast

Mr. Rogers taught children how the world works, encouraged mental health, and made sure everyone who watched it felt loved. In the seventies when black men were being kicked out of public pools, Mr. Rogers put a black police officer on his show and went out of his way to show the two of them in a kiddie pool together. He wasn't perfect, but he was darn near close.
