Watched S6:E7, "Newbie Dash"... A bit confused... Moral? Unclear... · 1:20am Sep 21st, 2018

Before we start -- an obligatory warning: it is strongly recommended to have watched the first five seasons of "Friendship is magic" and all of season 6 episodes up to episode 7!

Now we may start.

So... Just in the (late) evening of the 19-th of the month watched "Newbie Dash", and there's something I cannot understand... What's the moral in here? I mean, giving funny nicknames is fine? Calling someone names is OK? Just be glad you're a Wonderbolt? I just thought, Rainbow would stop acting every way possible at the end and just try to act as her true self. Try to show, she's cool. To show, she deserved something more, than being called a very humiliating and upsetting nickname. I thought, she'd show the rest of the team, just how cool she is, so they respected her more. That would be the day Rainbow showed everyone her true abilities! Oh, Rainbow Dash the Wonderbolt! The crowning moment of awesome!

N-n-nope. Nothing of a sort. Yes, she is cool and totally saved Equestria -- how many times? Four? Nightmare Moon, Discord's Plunderseeds, Tirek, then there was Tantabus... Plus the sonic rainboom that initiated it all... Well, not that many times, but still not even one Wonderbolt could have saved Equestria from the night eternal! Therefore Rainbow Dash is automatically way cooler, than any of them. Do they accept it? Why, yes. Yes, they do. And still they decide just to... ignore it? I mean, the hay?! Newbie or not, isn't calling someone a funny name unpleasant at the very least?? Let's ask ourselves a simple question: were we the Wonderbolt team and watched Rainbow Dash, well, crash into the trash can, would we laugh at her? Sure, it looks funny, when someone gets himself into a ridiculous situation because of being a new guy around, but would we not have been newbies ourselves as well? Well, would we not? Wouldn't experiencing a screw-up have been just as humiliating, as what we'd see of Rainbow Dash? Would it not?

Apparently, it wouldn't. The Wonderbolt team members' behaviour shows, that it wouldn't. Well, I say, it would! I say, experiencing a screw-up would have been an utterly unpleasant and most humiliating thing!

And now let's ask ourselves: is humiliation a pleasant sensation? Is it? 'Cause I dare say, it is not! Moreover, I dare say, humiliation should not be inflicted upon... well, ponies or humans, to say it generally, thinking creatures! Should it become a subject to argue on, such argument may evolve, but as the ones being empathic with Rainbow Dash we should feel for her, shouldn't we? That means, we should feel compassion about the whole situation. I know I felt.

Now, what does compassion mean? It means, that we can feel Rainbow Dash's pain of being one to laugh at, and pain is unpleasant (duh!). Scientifically, pain serves to warn one of something undesirable, and, only when such an undesirable thing does not happen, does the pain go away. Hence the conclusion to make -- painful things should go away, and if they don't, they must be forced into becoming as less painful, as can be! Or into not causing pain at all.

Now, what causes Rainbow Dash (and us by extension) pain? Lauging at her does! Laughter brings humiliation (it certainly can, if done a specific way), and humiliation hurts! Yeah, it causes pain, and what should be done to what causes pain? That's right, making it go away! Humiliation must perish! And it will, once laughter dissappears!

Well, did it? Oh, no, it didn't. Although the Wonderblot team should not have laughed at Rainbow Dash's misfortune, the laughter did not dissappear nor some time after it had happened, nor in the episode's end! The teasing would not stop, and moreover, it would, apparently, persist long into the cartoon as well! Again, what's the moral in here? It is clear as a day, that Rainbow Dash should have won in this issue...

Not only did she not, but had joined "the dark side" as well! Is... is this to establish, that making fun is OK?? That possible humiliation is to tolerate with? That pain must not go away?..

Did I misunderstand, how it works? What, if the problem is not what I see as one? Then what is it? I don't suppose I am mistaken, but then what is the moral here?.. Is it what I deduce it to be??.. That'd make everything a bit strange, to say the least... Were I the scriptor, I wouldn't execute it that way, oh, not at all!

If I had to present this problem to the audience, I would make sure, the moral would be: "One should not make fun of a newbie". The problem would be, everypony would make fun -- and would be far from not liking it! So I would then ask a question: "Is it OK to make fun of a newbie? If so or not so, why?"

Then I would just bring it to express my rant I've done here. And then there'd be confrontation! Wishing for things to be fair! M-m-m... some villain, perhaps, who lives off of "helping" others. Yeah, this would be definitely how I'd execute it!

...Perhaps, in a fanfic?..
