From the Notebook DC Crossover Idea: Doctor Fate

Here’s another idea I wanted to get down after a very busy day. It’s another DC Comics crossover that I don’t think I’ll ever try to work out.

This one is about Doctor Fate. The sorcerer supreme of DC. The Lord of Order. The guy with the fancy gold helmet.

The Great Tabloid Disater: Deleted Scene (From Chapter 2)

This was originally going to be in chapter 2, and I’d written it to completion, but my proofreader, the ever-talented Setokaiva, told me it was unnecessary when combined with the other scenes, and I saw his point. So, I took it out and edited bits and pieces of it into the remaining scenes.

Forgotten Friendship: Thoughts. Spoilers included · 12:51am Feb 18th, 2018

Hey again everybody. So I know I just put up a blog earlier about how I was tinkering with A Tale of Two Suns, and I still am. Kind of stuck on some things. But I took time to watch the Forgotten Friendship special (couldn't watch it right at the time, but yay for recordings). Still processing it I suppose.

But here are some of my immediate thoughts and first impressions on the special. Spoilers below. Let's see if I can keep them under a Read More tag. Well, if I don't, I'll fix it right away.

If you can't tell, I really haven't played around with too many of the buttons for the blog feature.

So as I mentioned a few days ago in a sort of impulse blog (though I think a lot of mine so far have been on impulse), I only found out about the EXISTENCE of this special on Thursday. Yup. Totally by accident. As I mentioned before, I decided to look at a few of the chapter books they've printed. I saw a preview of "A Friendship to Remember" and saw it was based on some of the Better Together series, but a chapter in the table of contents caught my eye, labeled "A Surprising Reunion".

With regards to Sunset Shimmer, that had me wondering, so that's why I got it. Skimming through the book, I realized it WAS what I thought it was, a reunion between Sunset and Celestia. Then I skimmed a bit further into it, and a wiki check told me it was actually based on a special set to air in two days. I really don't like shocks like that.

My first thoughts when I found out included "They're actually DOING IT." And to be honest, I was actually apprehensive about seeing it because of that. I mean, it's been written about in the fandom since EqG STARTED, because it's just good drama. Some of you might even say it's been done to death. Though I'm not sure on that myself.

I've even done it. But it's weird. It's like... it's something you sort of want to see, but on some level, you think you may not actually see it, you know? I'm not sure how to describe it.

On another level, I suppose I thought perhaps this meant people would no longer be able to write their own takes on it, and you know what? That's not necessarily true. There can be stories that ignore this set of events if they so choose, or rewrite it, or whatever. Feelings and thoughts like those are why I still went into watching it with apprehension.

The meeting itself was pretty simple. I mean, it wasn't the most dramatic or emotional of scenes between the two of them, and I'm pretty sure I've seen better. But I suppose the plot had to give time to the major issue, which was stolen memories. Personally, it would have also been nice to see Celestia cry when she hugged Sunset. Ah well.

Still, it wasn't a bad special, and I did get pretty emotional when Sunset sacrificed herself and all her own memories of CHS. Watching them leave one by one was pretty heartbreaking, and how she was left not even remembering coming to the human world at all. I can only imagine how terrifying that moment was for her. I mean seriously, that's a moment to hyperventilate and crawl into a ball if ever there was one. Wallflower was also an interesting character too.

And hey, we learned Clover the Clever was male, and that Sunset had gotten made president of the yearbook committee, and there was a friendship with Trixie. If human Starlight isn't around, I suppose Sunset can fit the role too.

The fourth wall bending jokes at acknowledging the songs also got a laugh, even if in a written medium they wouldn't really work. Twilight creating life via a robot was funny.

Although, I have to say, the idea that Celestia didn't have a sense of humor back when Sunset was around... yeah, I treat that as total bunk. XD I just can't imagine her without that prankster streak we all know and love.

So yeah, I'm not sure the reunion was the best one, but that doesn't mean we can't still write our own versions still. Not at all. I do wonder what they'll do with those extra six minutes. It can't really change the plot...

And who knows? Maybe I'll write my own version of the special after I'm done with A Tale of Two Suns. Though that would be way down the line of course.

Oh, and is it just me, or were the Mane Seven wearing totally different outfits in their superpowered forms from the ones in Legend of Everfree? I suppose that could just be Hasbro trying to sell more toys... you know what? I'm ignoring that one.

Still going to tinker with ATOTS. Maybe I'll even get to everything I wanted to by the end of tonight. Or maybe not. Seriously, I'm tired and I still have things to ponder over.

I watched the special three times in two days xD
The reunion could have been better, I agree with that, but at that time I was more wondering why Sunset was smaller than Twilight. I mean, she's older and there aren't really a lot of ponies with size differences. Am I the only one wondering about that? Haven't seen anyone write or talk about it 🙈
But whatever, I loved the special. Especially the scene where Sunset lost her memory. It was just so heartbreaking and I would have loved to see more, but guess with all the things I wanted to happen (like somebody question blanks in their memorie more thoroughly, Sunsets friends looking at their phones and seeing photos of themselves with Sunset etc) it would have had to be a full scaled movie... Wich I would have no problem with, but I won't complain, it's great to have a special at all ^^
