Fears · 5:55pm Jan 13th, 2018
To this day I still credit this thing I'm about to talk about as one of the most helpful things I ever did for myself. I thought maybe it could help someone else too
I used to have a lot of what I always referred to as 'silly' fears. Fears that one day I decided I didn't want to have anymore, because they really weren't adding any benefits to my life. One of them was loosely along the lines of 'I was scared of a certain group of people talking to me' and I had a few more that really made no sense to me as to why I had them.
I googled it or maybe read it in a book or overheard someone say it- I really have no idea. I found this method a few years ago but I thought I'd share it anyway, just wanted to clarify it isn't my own idea.
What you do, is get a piece of paper and you write the word 'fear' in the center (you are essentially making a mindmap). Then you surround it with the things you are afraid of. And then, you go back and add reasons to every fear as to why you shouldn't or don't have to fear it. These don't have to be long wordy reasons if you don't want them to be or struggle to think of one (for my fear of a certain group of people speaking to me I literally wrote 'so what' ), all that matters is that there is some reason. Any reason.
Then, you can go back over it every week or month and refresh your memory as to why you don't have to fear these things. Or if you're like me, forget about its existence for the next couple of years and randomly find it one day tucked in the back of a notebook.
I found it again today and y'know what? I don't have any of these fears now and haven't for a long while Point is: it can work and I hope maybe it'll help like, one person other than myself because that'd be great I'm not one for frequent blogs but I thought this knowledge was worth sharing.
Glad you've overcome your fears :)
