How Could the MLP Movie Be a Little Better? (SPOILERS) · 4:04am Nov 18th, 2017
I've seen the movie online, and it gave me those tiny nickly-feelings that only watching a movie about the best generation of ponies would satisfy. Yet, despite it's high box office record and the number of audiences who enjoyed it, I feel like it could've used a little tweaking here and there. So SPOILER ALERT, here's how the movie could've been a little better.
The Beginning:
The beginning of the movie, before the main logo for the movie pops up, there should have been a little story behind the ponies first, starting with the opening dialogue from MLP:FiM Season 1 where it chronicled the Mare in the Moon, Twilight's finding of the Elements of Harmony with her friends, her ascension to princess, the birth of the Castle of Friendship, and so on and so forth.
Next, we would've had an opening scene whee the Storm King's forces assaults an ancient vault where he and his troops steal the Staff of Sacanas where the Storm King himself explains the power of the staff to himself. Then he would use the communication spell with Tempest Shadow and Grubber on the other side (silhouettes and shaded), a healthy introduction to the other major antagonists in the movie.
Then the opening logo comes on.
In the beginning song, "Ponies Got the Beat" (a parody of "We Got the Beat" by The Goo Goo Dolls), there should be a pause in between the vocals where the ponies talk amongst themselves about the Friendship Festival, then follow Spike along while the vocals sing again, then panning it onto the pegasi who claim that Princess Twilight Sparkle works well under pressure.
Spike's crush on Rarity shouldn't be blatantly obvious.
Sia should've had more lines in the movie, with Twilight adding it she was thankful to Songbird Serenade that she could make it, stating also that the Friendship Festival wouldn't be the same without their most esteemed guest. The pop star would reply that she would do anything for her fans. Then the storm clouds brew in.
Then, during Tempest's assault on Canterlot, Princess Celestia and Luna should have put up a little more fight against the Storm Creatures before they are petrified. Even i wanna see the princesses use their magic to fend off a few of the creatures, don't you think?
The Middle:
Applejack's and Fluttershy's roles are underplayed and Pinkie Pie's is overplayed. A little equilibrium here and there wouldn't kill the character.
During the argument between Twilight and Pinkie Pie over the former trying to steal the Pearl, the other ponies should've been a bit more vocal in the matter, with Fluttershy pointing out that Twilight didn't trust her friends with a tone similar to how she told Rainbow Dash that her winter would be pet-less without Tank.
The Ending:
During that big climactic fight between the Mane Six, the pirates and Princess Skystar against the Storm Creatures, they should've also freed the other ponies then so they would have the strength and moral to fend off the big lugs. I dunno, just a thought, maybe.
That's just my opinion, though. Don't let it sway you away from watching it.
I'd watch it again if I wasn't so busy with college and real life.
I wonder what Nostalgia Critic would think of it?
That I'd like to see!
Until next time, my little droogies!
