Chapters you regret · 8:56pm Aug 24th, 2017
In my most recent chapter, I performed a rushed death of an underdeveloped character in an attempt to 'shake things up'.
Don't do this. If you're comfortable with the pace your story is going at, and can set up conflicts for the future, then continue on that path.
Do not simply assume that you can just unsubmit the chapter and exchange it with something else. It won't bring back the audience you already lost, and the readers that stayed through your regret will likely start to realise that you've stopped writing your own story, but have instead started writing specifically to please them.
While playing to your audience is always something to consider; you must also take into account that every reader is different. Every reader wants slightly different things from the stories they read. If you have made a bad decision, try the very best you can to remedy it in future chapters as I shall have to attempt to do. But at the very least, hold your integrity and take your mistake. Make it into something better.
You will not please everyone.
It's good to see that you took the criticism by heart and use it to improve yourself. Learning from your mistakes is always a good thing.
If I can make a suggestion: if I understood you right, you write most as you go along and release chapters as fast as possible. Nobody's rushing you to release a chapter every 12 hours, so you could maybe write 1-3 chapters in advance before publishing to get a clearer picture where you want to take a situation and use it to tweak the chapters if necessary.
Good on you, the way I see it though people may have their criticisms and opinions the person you should ultimately be writing for is yourself, otherwise endlessly trying to appease everyone will lead to the mother of all burnouts.
