Entry #38- This Grass is a Gray Area · 5:32am Jul 9th, 2017
I gotta say, some of the ponies in these episodes need to be a little more straight forward without being mean about it, but sometimes you can be too direct, you know? Let me go into detail.
Parental Glideance-
I like the return of fan-filly Scootaloo, even if see was a little creepy about it sometimes. I’d always been curious as to what made Rainbow Dash so confident, but I can’t help but wonder if all that attention would’ve made her a little more jaded than she is. Perhaps her parents aren’t always so extreme, and it was the excitement of her being a Wonderbolt that made them act out? Otherwise, Rainbow Dash would’ve blown up at them long before this episode happened, I’d think. But who knows?
Hard to Say Anything-
Feather Bangs was funny- an obvious foil to Big Mac, and a Justin Bieber knock-off. I bet he has a hoofbook that gave him all those pick-up lines somewhere. That mare trio that were fawning over him were great homages to Gaston from Beauty & the Beast’s fan club, too. The contests-especially the singing one- were cringe-worthy, but I kinda hope they add it to the next MLP soundtrack.
Don’t keep doing what you’re doing if the girl doesn’t seem to be enjoying herself, guys! The counter solution seemed obvious to me, but oh well.
Honest Apple-
Reminded me of an episode of Project Runaway. I think Rarity was supposed to be Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum rolled into one- but I wouldn’t have minded seeing pony versions of them. Rarity should’ve asked AJ before announcing the contest and given her more details about being a judge, too. I have to say, I really enjoyed Strawberry Sunrise’s candor and the roundabout way it made AJ figure out how her honesty went too far.
I’ll never forgive AJ for that feather hat, though.
Well, that’s it for now. I’m going to try REALLY REALLY hard to post my next fic up next Saturday, so look forward for it!
