Have You Heard About Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie? · 5:11am Mar 31st, 2017
While I'm a fan of the books, I must express some reservations. No, they don't concern such trivial matters as the casting, the characterization, or the writing. They concern the one thing that stands out the most about the series: Flip-O-Rama.
As you can see, they were the highlights of every single book. They highlight action in such a way that can't be replicated with mere "animation". It was a glorious art form involving two pages, both on the same side, and was controlled solely by the reader. Whether it was one flip or a thousand flips, the reader was in complete control of the action.
And so, if the movie can't utilize this, then regardless of how good the movie is; in its characters, its humor, its writing, or its faithful recreation of the artstyle accentuated by the fitting animation... then the entire movie has no ground to stand on.
(Of course, this is all a joke. I'm super hyped for this movie, even if the actors' voices are kind of an odd choice. But hey, if Dipper Pines can make it work, then I'm sure George Beard and Harold Hutchins can do the same.)
